Cheryl Williams began volunteering with the Brown County UW-Extension Community Gardens Program in early 2013. This program helps to address food insecurity, health issues and the need for community building. Over 70% of the program's 170 gardeners are of low to moderate income, which often indicated food insecurity, and Cheryl's work to increase access to produce through gardening helps to address this concern.

Over her three years with the Community Gardens Program, Cheryl's role has varied greatly, from leading volunteer groups, to canvassing garden neighborhoods, using her project management skills to facilitate program organization, fundraising, and voluntarily running the program for a number of months due to funding uncertainties. Currently, Cheryl is an active board member with the program, attends monthly meetings to discuss program development, and communicates regularly with other board members between meetings. Cheryl is also actively involved in program fundraising and scouting for new garden locations, and plays a very hands-on role during the growing season. Cheryl truly fills whatever role is needed!

Thank you, Cheryl, for all of the work you have done for the Community Gardens Program and for the difference you make in the community!
