Doctors in Recital Committee is our volunteer of the week as well as our
WPS Volunteer Award Arts & Culture Runner Up!
In the eleven years since its first performance, Doctors in Recital has provided financial assistance to local nonprofit agencies that serve the Brown county community, as well as local music education programs. Recipients are selected based on a number of qualifications including degree to which the services are directed to the Brown County community at large, lack of support from other potential funding sources, and services directed to women, children, and other at-risk populations in Brown County.
Each of the acts is fronted by a physician who is responsible for assembling other performers for the act, rehearsing, arranging and, in some cases, writing the music that is performed. Committee members select the recipients; coordinate the logistics of the show; arrange for publicity and ticket sales; and solicit community sponsorships. The 2017 show generated over $50,000 in sponsorship's, in addition to ticket sales.
They have always looked for programs that had a specific need; provided a direct benefit to the Brown County community; kept the financial support within that community; and which were likely to provide ongoing benefits in the years after their donation. Their financial support is the most visible benefit of the annual Doctors in Recital; but their recipients also receive much-needed publicity and visibility.
Virtually all of the hours devoted to each show are volunteer hours, donated for the love of the project and the benefit of a worthy set of recipients.
Each year's check presentation brings them a different kind of celebration - as unique as each year's recipients - and would be reward enough. They have also created a dedicated group of Doctors in Recital junkies who love music and work tirelessly to bring their best stuff to the stage every year.
Thank you to the Doctors in Recital Committee members who have found a fun and entertaining way of giving back to our community
