Daniel Ammerman is our volunteer of the week!
Through Dan's efforts with multiple local non-profit organizations, he has been a key leader in raising hundreds of thousands of dollars that go directly to supporting Wisconsin veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. With the non-profit Team One Mile, Dan is a leadership mentor, cycle rider, fundraiser, and past member of their board of directors. Each year he bicycles 700 miles and helps plan community events in six cities across Wisconsin. He also assists with the Community Foundation of Green Bay's veterans benefit golf outing, volunteering approximately 250 hours annually. In addition, Dan is a member of the board for Veterans 1st of NEW. He helped this non-profit get through the governmental approval process with Brown County and the City of Green Bay, and he helped secure gifts from major donors.
Disabled American Veterans of Wisconsin, H.O.O.A.H Wisconsin, Sons of the American Revolution, De Pere VFW Post 2113, and American Legion Post 11 are just a few of the other organizations to which Dan devotes his time. Cumulatively, his volunteer leadership roles have been instrumental in addressing the core needs of many local veterans, ensuring they and their families receive direct, visible, and quantifiable benefits.
As a U.S. Army Reserve soldier, Dan served his country for 39 years. Now retired, he has rededicated his life to supporting our nation's heroes and their families. Colleagues say his spirit of volunteerism shines through in every aspect of his involvement, as he gives selflessly of his time and energy to make a positive impact and inspire others. Thank you, Dan, for the countless ways you support area veterans, active-duty service members, and their families!

CASA Volunteer Training - October 6, 13, and 20
Every child deserves someone who shows up for them. When children experience abuse, neglect, or uncertainty, their world can change in ways no child should have to navigate alone. During these challenging times, having a consistent, caring adult in their corner can make all the difference. A CASA volunteer provides something every child deserves: a relationship built on trust, stability, and support. Through regular weekly visits, just one hour at a time, CASA volunteers get to know a child, listen to what matters to them, learn about their hopes and challenges, and advocate for their best interests throughout the court process. The next CASA volunteer training class begins in October, and they are looking for community members who are ready to be that steady presence for a child. You don't need to have all the answers, you simply need the willingness to show up, listen, and make a meaningful difference through consistency and connection. Because every child deserves to know they are seen, they are heard, and they are not facing difficult moments alone.
Becoming a CASA volunteer is a journey, and you don't have to take the first step alone. If you're ready to make a meaningful impact in the life of a child right here in our community, CASA would love the opportunity to connect with you, answer your questions, and guide you through the process of becoming an advocate. Training class: October 6, 13, and 20, 5:30-8:30 pm each evening. Minimum age: 21. Click here to learn more.

Parent Pal Volunteers
This program connects mentors with parents referred by Brown County Child Protective Services in an effort to provide informal support to families who seek guidance and empowerment. Goals include:
- Helping parents develop essential skills that promote a safe and healthy family environment
- Offering emotional and practical support to enhance parenting skills and family dynamics
- Fostering a meaningful relationship between mentors and parents, based on compatibility and mutual interest.
Mentors are encouraged to meet with their Parent Pal two to three times per month, providing consistent support and advice. While matches can last as long as both parties are interested, they hope to see mentors engaged with their Parent Pal for one year. Parents will learn new strategies for parenting and family management. By gaining support, parents can feel more confident in their abilities to provide a nurturing environment. The program contributes to creating a safer and healthier atmosphere for minor children. Pregnancy and Adoption Meal Train for Birth Parents
When a woman chooses adoption, she does so out of deep love for her child. Many of the women Catholic Charities serves are already parenting, working full-time, and facing life without a strong support system. While Catholic Charities walks alongside them throughout their adoption journey, the weeks following delivery can be especially difficult. They are seeking volunteers to form a meal train team for birth parents who have recently placed a child for adoption. Ideally, a team will consist of three to four volunteers who work together to provide two meals per week during the first month after delivery. By sharing the commitment among a small group, volunteers can provide consistent support while making the opportunity manageable for everyone involved. Flexible shifts. Minimum age: 18.

Conversation Group Facilitators
Turn conversations into confidence! Sometimes the best way to learn English is simply to talk, laugh, listen, and practice with someone who's willing to have a conversation. Literacy Green Bay works with immigrants and refugees who are building their English skills and confidence. In conversation groups, students can practice speaking English in a relaxed, welcoming environment, and they're looking for friendly volunteers to help make the conversation happen! As a conversation group facilitator, you'll help students:
- Practice real-world conversational English
- Express their ideas and opinions with confidence
- Build self-assurance in everyday communication
- Connect with others and feel more comfortable speaking English
Volunteer once a week or several times a week. Just bring your conversation skills. Literacy Green Bay will bring the topics. Together, you'll help students find their voice. Shifts: 4:30-5:30 pm (Mondays and Tuesdays) or 11:30 am-12:30 pm (Wednesdays and Thursdays). Minimum age: 18.

As a computer lab volunteer, you'll help students with practical skills like searching the internet, navigating websites, creating and sending emails, and using a computer with greater confidence. Every other week, Literacy's teachers lead a digital literacy lesson, and volunteers help students stay on track, answer questions, and celebrate those little "aha!" moments. No advanced computer knowledge required. Patience, encouragement, and a willingness to help are what matter most. Volunteer once a week or several times a week. Come help Literacy's students build skills, confidence, and independence - one click at a time. Shifts: Monday-Thursday, 9:45-10:45 am and 6:30-7:30 pm. Minimum age: 18.

Guest Engagement
Be part of someone's new day. More than completing tasks, this role is about being present, building connections, and helping women feel seen and supported. During a shift, volunteers may welcome and visit with guests, play games, chat, help guests access resources such as computers, food, clothing or hygiene items, answer questions, serve meals, and assist with light cleaning, organizing, and small group facilitating. Optionally, volunteers may also choose to lead a small group, activity, class or creative project, or help collect resource materials and in-kind donations, and pick up or drop off items. You don't need to have experience or all the answers. A willingness to listen, help, and treat each woman with dignity goes a long way. Flexible shifts: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-2:00 pm (frequency of shifts is also flexible). Minimum age: 18.

Companion Volunteers
Sometimes, the greatest gift is simply being there. Unity is looking for companion volunteers who are willing to share their time and presence with patients living with serious illness. For someone facing a serious illness, a familiar face and a caring conversation can mean so much. Your weekly visit can become something a patient looks forward to and is a chance to talk, laugh, share stories, or simply enjoy having someone there. As a companion volunteer, you may:
- Spend meaningful time visiting and socializing with a patient
- Listen, talk, share stories, play a game, or simply sit together
- Provide companionship and connection for patients who may feel isolated
- Give caregivers a much-needed break and an opportunity for respite
Visits may take place in a patient's home, nursing home, assisted living facility, or at Meng Hospice Residence. Unity is a not-for-profit partnership of Bellin Health, St. Mary's HSHS, and St. Vincent HSHS, caring for patients with serious illnesses while supporting their caregivers and families. Your presence can make a difference. You don't need to have all the answers. You don't need to know exactly what to say. You just need to be willing to show up, week after week, and be there. A weekly visit can bring comfort, and a sense of connection during a difficult time. For a patient and their family, knowing that someone is coming to see them can mean more than you may ever realize. If you have time in your week and a heart for people, Unity would love to hear from you. Join this volunteer team and discover how simply being there can make a lasting difference. Various shifts. Minimum age: 18.
