Volunteer of the Week
Dale Bartel is our Volunteer of the Week!

Dale has been a volunteer with the Brown County Memory Café since they opened in October 2015. There are five Memory Cafes throughout Brown County. The Memory Cafés operate under the umbrella of Curative Connections, a nonprofit organization. The mission of Memory Café is to provide a fun, comfortable, social environment for those people with early stage memory loss, who can attend with their caregiver or companion. The five Memory Cafés each meet once a month and provide relaxation, fun, laughter, engaging activities, and resource materials, along with the friendship of others who are on the same journey – at no cost.

Dale was a Business teacher at NWTC for 26 years before retiring. Prior to that he was a secondary teacher. He was also a caregiver for his wife who battled cancer for 25 years. Dale found out about the Memory Cafés when they first were getting started. He received a letter from NWTC asking retirees for their volunteer help. He says “the fit is right.” He says the couples he can relate to, along with the friendships he has made, motivates him to volunteer. He himself, enjoys the variety of activities and the outings they have gone on. He likes to see the participants with their caregivers enjoy the same activities the Memory Cafés offer. He is proud of the organization, as it is also an outlet for caregivers. He believes you can get strength and support from others facing similar issues. Dale shared that he grew up helping others and has met a lot of people through volunteering. He feels blessed, so he thinks it’s important to give back. Dale states, “We are all on a journey with a pot hole, and when you hit that pot hole it’s important to lend a helping hand."

Dale is dedicated, knowledgeable, and a deeply caring volunteer. He likes to attend the Memory Café at the NWTC/Green Bay Botanical Garden location, helping volunteer once a month. He wants people in the community with cognitive issues to know that there are people in the community that care. Dale realizes that you do have to reach out, as there is not always someone knocking at your door.

Thank you, Dale, for being a dedicated Memory Café volunteer!

Openings Available for Advocacy Training
with the Sexual Assault Center
Training in August, September or November

Have you been inspired by the bravery amongst sexual assault survivors speaking out? Are you looking for a way to stand with those survivors and make a lasting impact in our community? If so, The Sexual Assault Center, needs you to join their volunteer team! No experience is necessary as all advocates receive extensive training prior to working with victims of Sexual Violence. A new training program prepares advocates and is more flexible for those with busy schedules. Self-paced learning modules combined with on-site training and shadowing experiences prepare advocates for this work. Advocates play an important role in victims’ healing process as they not only field incoming hotline calls, but also respond to hospitals or police stations to provide immediate support and information. Volunteers sign up for three shifts each month that work with their schedule and attend monthly meetings with other advocates, to maintain protocols and expand knowledge.

To inquire, apply online and the volunteer coordinator will send you more information to get started!

Available shifts: Weekday nights 5:00 pm-7:00 am; weekend days 7:00 am-7:00 pm; and weekend nights 7:00 pm-7:00 am
