Curative Connections' Specialized Transportation Services Volunteer Drivers are volunteers of the week as well as our
WPS Volunteer Awards Large Group Award Recipients!
One of the most pressing issues in our community is the need for transportation services for people who have disabilities and for the elderly. This group specifically addresses this need. Curative Connections' Specialized Transportation Services provides low-cost rides to seniors and people with disabilities who have no other means to get to the doctor, jobs, grocery stores, and more. This service allows them to lead a more fulfilling and self-sufficient lifestyle and remain independent, prolonging their ability to remain in their own homes.
Curative currently has 87 volunteer drivers and this program would not exist if not for the volunteer component. This is truly a unique program that has benefited the community for over 50 years. Their drivers provide rides (in 4-5 hour shifts) to a variety of destinations within Brown County using Curative Connections' vehicles. They assist clients with door-to-door service helping them to/from their home or destination into the vehicle and providing safe, timely and dependable transportation. Nearly one-third, or 31% of their drivers, have been driving for over ten years, 46% have been driving between one and nine years; and 23% have been driving for less than on year..
The benefit to the community is immense. Since July 2015, over 84,000 rides have been provided to nearly 1,000 clients. In many cases their volunteers are viewed by their clients as their 'lifelines.' Without volunteers, these clients would simply not be able to get to critical medical appointments or their jobs.
"If we didn't have this service, we would probably have to quit dialysis as neither my husband nor I can drive and taxis would be an expense we could not afford", was a quote from one of their clients.
Thank you Curative Connections Specialized Transportation Drivers for all that you do to help our community and its members!
