Volunteer of the Week
The Civic Symphony of Green Bay are our Volunteers of the Week!

Providing an outlet for local volunteer musicians who enjoy the orchestral experience is the reason the Civic Symphony was created. However, the entire Brown County community is the beneficiary of the time and effort put into the Civic Symphony of Green Bay (CSGB) by its volunteer members. The CSGB is a community-based organization providing area musicians of all ages the opportunity to perform symphonic literature in partnership with skilled professionals and offering their performances to the general public at a price that minimizes financial barriers to attendance. The volunteer members that make up the Civic Symphony also create education outreach opportunities for adult and student groups and foster cooperation with other local arts organizations in joint performance.

It is the goal of CSGB to bring the experience of high-quality live performances of great music to a diverse population. This serves the wider community by nurturing more compassionate citizens, instilling a deeper understanding of hard work, teamwork, independent thinking, perseverance and goal setting. Specifically, as a symphony and a nonprofit arts organization, the Civic Symphony strives to meet the needs of children, youth and families and, in 2017-2018, the Civic Symphony focused heavily on meeting the needs of senior citizens in our community. This effort included nursing home clients, seniors from the Aging and Disability Resource Center and Casa Alba. Civic Symphony volunteers brought educational/music related programs right to these facilities. In addition, they worked to provide seniors with concert tickets and assistance with transportation to a concert.

Celebrating its 23rd year, the Civic Symphony of Green Bay typically offers a season of four evening concerts including a "family concert" that is also presented during the day for more than 650 students from area schools. Representatives of the orchestra also spend time visiting classrooms to share information, including concert etiquette and background on the composers and music to be performed. Symphony members also brought programming into senior living facilities this year. The Civic Symphony also brought an outdoor concert to the Green Bay Botanical Gardens in July, which required "extra" volunteer hours from the orchestra members, board, and committees. As Green Bay's only surviving orchestra organization, each volunteer understands the rewards and challenges of providing live symphony music to the community. It is a responsibility that is not taken lightly.

Thank you, Civic Symphony of Green Bay, for bringing the experience of high-quality symphony performances to our community!

Openings Available for Advocacy Training
with the Sexual Assault Center
Training in September or November

Have you been inspired by the bravery amongst sexual assault survivors speaking out? Are you looking for a way to stand with those survivors and make a lasting impact in our community? If so, The Sexual Assault Center, needs you to join their volunteer team! No experience is necessary as all advocates receive extensive training prior to working with victims of Sexual Violence. A new training program prepares advocates and is more flexible for those with busy schedules. Self-paced learning modules combined with on-site training and shadowing experiences prepare advocates for this work. Advocates play an important role in victims’ healing process as they not only field incoming hotline calls, but also respond to hospitals or police stations to provide immediate support and information. Volunteers sign up for three shifts each month that work with their schedule and attend monthly meetings with other advocates, to maintain protocols and expand knowledge.

To inquire, apply online and the volunteer coordinator will send you more information to get started!

Available shifts: Weekday nights 5:00 pm-7:00 am; weekend days 7:00 am-7:00 pm; and weekend nights 7:00 pm-7:00 am
