Jane Jordan is not only the director of
Lutheran Social Services (LSS)-Wellspring program, which is a drop-in center for women in downtown Green Bay, but is also an avid volunteer for numerous organizations in Green Bay. While the needs of women were being met, Jane knew that there also needed to be a center for both men and women to not only find shelter, but to also find resources that would help them get back on track in their lives.
After numerous volunteer hours, and months of planning and negotiating, Jane opened the Micah Center in collaboration with the Green Bay City Planning, Green Bay City Council, neighborhood association for community education and the Catholic Diocese through St. John's the Evangelist Homeless Shelter. The gap in community needs had been met!
Jane's volunteer time to establish the day time co-ed center was in addition to her working full time at Wellspring, volunteering as President of her lay led church fellowship, volunteering with the Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Green Bay's Program Curriculum Committee and coordinating the Human Services Day.
Jane knew of the need for a co-ed center for men from her work as director at Wellspring. Many men would visit outside and ask her when she was going to open up a Wellspring for men. Jane was instrumental in outlining the objectives of the day time center which were to meet the community needs by being a positive response to a growing challenge; a caring and empathetic response to people in need; a reduction in police resources required to address non-emergency issues; a reduction in health-care resources and costs and a community which feels comfortable in the downtown area and accessing downtown services.
Jane has a wonderful rapport with both volunteers and all the women who come into Wellspring. She puts in numerous volunteer hours monthly for Wellspring and for the many other groups in the community who are affiliated in some way with them. She is respected as someone who is a team player, looking out for those who have no voice.
Thank you Jane, for all that you have done for the Green Bay community!
