Colby Drefcinski is a Franklin Middle School student who has been volunteering with
Paul's Pantry for a few hours at a time over the past year. He has also volunteered at
Friendship Place where he was able to build human connections with those suffering from dementia who often are unable to get the human connection they need.
At Paul's Pantry, Colby sorted food at a food bank and helped prepare the food for customers and at Friendship Place, he helped transport elderly individuals from table to table during their Christmas party. Colby made a difference in that he was able to help supply those in need of food the resources they were unable to get elsewhere.
Colby filled a role that was needed at his organizations whether it was physical labor, organizational tasks, meeting and spending time with people in efforts to foster a social connection and providing various other areas of support as needed. As soon as he became involved with these organizations, he felt the opportunities helped him to grow as an individual. He sees himself as a better person now that he once did and he credits all of his various volunteer experiences for that.
Colby does not see himself as a leader but he does lead by example. He does not simply volunteer because he has to but does so because he legitimately enjoys it. The fact that he has such a varied number of volunteer experiences under his belt at such a young age is a testament to his character and work ethic and the individuals he has worked with are better off thanks to his service.
Paul's Pantry and the Friendship Place thank you for all that you do for their organizations and the lives of the people you touch.
