Erika Bradley is our Volunteer of the Week!
Operation Snowball (OSB) is a national organization that promotes alcohol and other drug abuse prevention through building a “Community of Caring” so that high school-aged teens can build positive friendships and relationships.
Erika came to the third Operation Snowball event which was held in Fall of 2012. She came to OSB because she worked with one of the other adult leaders who convinced her to check out OSB. Erika came to the event as an adult small group leader – just taking a leap of faith because she liked kids and helping the community. Little did she know the extent to which her involvement would expand to the critical year-round service she provides today! Even when Erika moved away from Green Bay, which would be a perfectly understandable reason to back off a little bit, she stayed just as active and ensured that electronic communication and videoconferencing was available if she couldn’t attend. Erika has demonstrated by her actions that she is dedicated to this program and dedicated to the kids.
Erika has been an adult director with OSB for the better part of the last 6 years.
The Green Bay chapter sponsors two weekend retreats per year with team-building and leadership activities, community speakers, and recreational events. Erika is involved on a year-round basis planning these events. OSB brings teens together from different cultural backgrounds and identities and helps them see how there is far more that unites us than divides us.
Erika serves as one of two primary contacts working with site reservations, budgeting, and other administrative tasks and over the past few years, Erika has taken on more and more of these responsibilities. In addition to the weekend events, there are evening meetings and training sessions throughout the year that she coordinates. (Adults handle the administrative setup and teach the teen leaders to train their peers.) Almost all of the adult leaders, including Erika, work full-time and a true team effort is needed. Erika’s support ensures that there are always at least two knowledgeable adults available to assist the organization as needed. Quite frankly, Erika is fantastic at day-to-day organizational tasks and assuming some of those duties has kept us running much more smoothly.
Erika is busy for hours every day leading up to the event, and the 3-day events keep her busy from early morning to after midnight. She also is involved in setting up follow-up meetings. Erika not only inspires students within our program, she carries her energy out into the community and draws others in.
Thank you, Erika, for your ongoing dedication to Operation Snowball!
