Volunteer of the Week
|
 |
 |
|
Kim Charniak is our volunteer of the week as well as our
WPS Volunteer Leadership Award Recipient!
Kim started her service with Safe Haven Humane Society in the summer of 2015. She initially visited their shelter facility a few hours a week to do animal care and cleaning. As the number of pets in their care increased, so did Kim's involvement! Within weeks, she was putting in more hours, ordering supplies, coordinating volunteers, organizing animal care schedules, walking dogs, and doing paperwork.
Even though Kim is the president of the Board of Directors, she is also their most active volunteer. The team at Safe Haven appreciates her because she leads by example, is a tireless advocate for the pets and people in our community, and is always thinking outside of the box.
As part of a small organization with limited resources, Kim is always encouraging other volunteers to consider new ways of doing things. She also encourages other volunteers to share their time and talents with other organizations as they are able. Under her direction, Safe Haven added volunteers of all ages, including families and groups. She views the other animal shelters and rescues as partners in the fight against pet homelessness and is always considering ways the organizations can work together to maximize their efforts.
Kim's
energy, humility, and resourcefulness make her a wonderful leader and advocate.
Under Kim's leadership, Safe Haven Humane Society is operating much more effectively than in the past. Kim is the creative mind behind their new mission statement "Not your ordinary shelter," and she is continually encouraging the team to brainstorm ways to prove their mission. In their first few years, the organization lacked volunteers and finances and were only able to assist a handful of people and pets. Under Kim's leadership, Safe Haven has grown and succeeded. With a healthy budget, concrete goals, and active volunteers, they are expanding their work at a rapid pace.
She is a role model to everyone at Safe Haven and a dedicated advocate for the pets and people in our area. Thank you Kim, for making difference in our community!
