Missy Heroux is our Volunteer of the Week!
Missy Heroux volunteers her service at Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary (HEA). Missy has two very important roles at HEA. Missy is both a hands-on dog walker and a dedicated events coordinator. Neither of these are a small undertaking, especially when performed with the passion that Missy brings to her duties. Yet Missy has figured out a way to balance them with ease, even while working full-time and while dealing with health issues.
As a dog walker, Missy provides extensive exercise and guidance to countless dogs in Happily Ever After's care. Missy has been walking dogs for over 7 years and has done so in Green Bay and Marion. She personally walks these dogs more than 1,100 miles per year. When Missy walks dogs, the dogs, other volunteers, herself and the eventual adopters of these companion animals all benefit. Many of these dogs need a sense of direction, they need an opportunity to trust in people and they need someone to love them unconditionally. Missy does that and then some.
Missy leads the planning, coordination and execution of two of HEA's core events (Beer & Biscuits and Steps for Pets): Beer & Biscuits - a beverage & food tasting event, which draws more than 600 people annually, and Steps for Pets, which brings together more than 250 community members and their pets for a 5k walk and fun-fest. In addition, Missy leads a committee of 7 to 10 individuals through monthly (sometimes more frequent) meetings to plan these events. She has recently volunteered to leverage her skills in event planning by leading an additional committee focused on smaller-scale fundraisers. All told, Missy's efforts help generate in excess of $50,000 towards the mission's work each year.
Thank you, Missy, for your dedication to the animals at Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary!
