Volunteer of the Week
Michels Hall Service Program Students are our Volunteers of the Week!

Students living in the Michels Hall Service Program at St. Norbert College each commit to completing at least 30 hours of service throughout the academic year. The students focus on community building, poverty awareness, multicultural awareness, and mentorship at the YMCA, Freedom House, the Boys and Girls Club, Aldo Leopold Community School, Norby's Buddies, De Pere Police Department and Howe Community Resource Center.

The St. Norbert College students provide direct service to community members, primarily working with children in after school programs. Acting as positive role models, the Michels Hall Service Program participants support, encourage, and inspire youth in the local Green Bay area to be role models and examples of what it means to be a college student. These second-year college students are motivated to continue to serve after their year because of the impact that it has on both themselves and the community; they are being challenged to develop as active citizens while supporting others to grow with them. While they are involved in a variety of activities, they are present to listen and to give attention to those who need it.

The students in the Michels Hall Service Program always bring their smiles, positivity, and enthusiasm to service. Their presence and involvement at their service sites bring a lot of joy to those who they spend their time with. The students spend a lot of time simply paying attention to the youth of our community and it provides them all with a sense of happiness through the connections they make. One student explained, "[A student] was having a rough day and I sat with him to talk. In line walking to the playground he held my hand and we played together. It was just really affirming that what we are doing can make a difference for a day." The students are providing time to support growth, but they are also there to listen and show love to those who need it.

Thank you, Michels Hall Service Program participants, for being positive role models to children in our community!

Openings Available for Advocacy Training
with the Sexual Assault Center
Training in August, September or November

Have you been inspired by the bravery amongst sexual assault survivors speaking out? Are you looking for a way to stand with those survivors and make a lasting impact in our community? If so, The Sexual Assault Center, needs you to join their volunteer team! No experience is necessary as all advocates receive extensive training prior to working with victims of Sexual Violence. A new training program prepares advocates and is more flexible for those with busy schedules. Self-paced learning modules combined with on-site training and shadowing experiences prepare advocates for this work. Advocates play an important role in victims’ healing process as they not only field incoming hotline calls, but also respond to hospitals or police stations to provide immediate support and information. Volunteers sign up for three shifts each month that work with their schedule and attend monthly meetings with other advocates, to maintain protocols and expand knowledge.

To inquire, apply online and the volunteer coordinator will send you more information to get started!

Available shifts: Weekday nights 5:00 pm-7:00 am; weekend days 7:00 am-7:00 pm; and weekend nights 7:00 pm-7:00 am
