Michele Janda is our Volunteer of the Week
as well as our WPS Volunteer Awards Adult Award Runner-Up
!
Michele Janda is a volunteer at St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter. She quietly and without fanfare washes 15 loads of personal laundry for the St. John's guests every single Monday through Friday, from November 1 to April 30. She has done this for 8 years with many of those years coming in 6 days a week for approximately 5 hours each evening. To wash a load of laundry may not seem like much, but to a person homeless it is a loving gesture. Being clean and cared for may mean the difference in receiving a job offer and not receiving an offer during the interview process. Michele washes, dries and folds individuals’ laundry, and leaves a basket of dignity waiting for them each evening. She also washes towels, soiled bedding, donations, etc. She also supports the guests May through October by doing laundry on drop-in Tuesdays.
Michele's efforts provide clean clothes to someone with only the clothes they have on or those they can fit into a backpack. Sometimes these clothes have a very special meaning or attachment to the guests, so having them well cared for and returned is very important to the guests. Losing their laundry in the shuffle of shelter life can be very stressful, but Michele has a clear process that removes the risk of lost laundry items.
Without Michele, St. John's shelter would not be able to complete laundry for a large number of guests, each night. Using staff from other critical tasks may get towels washed, but would not allow the special touch to as many guests. Not only does Michele do the laundry at the shelter, but she also is at the shelter every evening to share in community during dinner. She checks in on guests and their accomplishments, provides laughter and stories, then she quietly gathers the laundry and works - without fanfare, no matter the weather - ice, snowstorms, hail, freezing rain. Michele is, without a doubt, dedicated to ensuring the guests of St. John's have clean clothing, day after day!
Thank you, Michele, for your continued commitment to the guests of St. Johns!

LaForce Seeks Local Green Bay Charity
to Support in Annual Community Campaign
|
Every fall, LaForce employees raise funds and awareness for a local charity in our annual Community Campaign. We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting nominations for the 2018 Community Campaign, which will be held in September. Green Bay-area 501c3 organizations are encouraged to nominate themselves to be the 2018 Community Campaign recipient. A fillable form is available to download at
https://laforceinc.com/who-we-are/community-involvement/
. All nominations forms must be completed and emailed to
MB-Marketing@laforceinc.com
by Friday, May 25.
Filling out the nomination form does not guarantee an organization will be chosen as the recipient. A select team of employees will vet each submission, and Green Bay employees will then vote to select a single charity to support in the 2018 Community Campaign.
