Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity Homeowner Support Committee is our volunteer of the week as well as our
WPS Volunteer Awards Small Group Runner Up!
Upon approval into the
Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity's Home Ownership Program, the newly approved family meets their Advocate. This Advocate is a member of the Homeowner Support Committee who helps guide them through first time homeownership, often developing a relationship with the new homeowner that lasts a lifetime!
The Support Committee members are very hands-on in providing resources, guidance and education to their Habitat for Humanity Families. Their goal is to help families break the poverty cycle and become independent, successful long-term homeowners. These Advocates are with their assigned families throughout the entire process of first time homeownership and will continue with them until one year after the homeowner moves into their home, but many times the relationship continues past that required time. These Advocates will often go out of their way to accompany the homeowner to meetings, classes or volunteer opportunities and put their own lives on the back-burner to help a family achieve a lifelong dream.
Being a part of Habitat for Humanity's Homeowner Support Committee is an ongoing volunteer commitment. Advocates often meet with homeowners 1-2 times per month along with attending Committee meetings and continuing their own education with local community resources and activities. Because of the Advocates, Habitat homeowners are better prepared for homeownership responsibilities and better financially prepared for future home repairs and needs. The comfort of developing a relationship outside of the Habitat office helps encourage communication and gives the family individualized support throughout the process of building, moving into, and maintaining their new home.
Habitat Advocates are a unique group of volunteers who are devoted to bettering our community and providing everyone with a decent place to live. Most of them hold full time-jobs, volunteer with other organizations, yet find ample time to support Habitat and their families. Overall, Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity's Homeowner Support Committee has made a huge impact on their Habitat families and our community!
Thank you Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity Homeowner Support Committee for making an impact in our community by helping others achieve their dream of homeownership!
