Volunteers of the Week

The after school helpers at COMSA are our volunteers of the week!

COMSA’s after school program volunteers are the heart and energy behind the organization’s ability to serve refugee and immigrant students in grades K-12. Every day, these volunteers show up ready to make a difference, whether it’s tutoring one-on-one, leading small group lessons, chaperoning enrichment trips, supporting guest speakers, or stepping in with creative activities that keep students engaged and inspired. Many even design their own dynamic lessons to spark curiosity and build confidence. Their dedication not only helps students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, but also gives them the extra attention they need to thrive in school.

With more than 22 students attending the program on an average evening, there simply are not enough staff members to provide the individualized tutoring and age-appropriate small groups the students need to succeed. These volunteers step in to fill that gap with flexibility and heart. They connect personally with COMSA’s students and care greatly for them. In return, the students love having them around to help out. As the volunteers facilitate opportunities to maximize English learning, develop leadership skills, and participate in exploring different career paths, they’re helping to create a generation of young leaders who will be equipped with everything they need to have an impact on our community. Thank you, COMSA after school program volunteers, for giving of your time and talents and contributing to the success of every child you serve!

Date-Specific Volunteer Opportunities

Lambeau Field Ticket Scanning - August 28 and September 6 and 24

Hand of Hope seeks volunteer groups to assist with ticket scanning at various Lambeau Field events. Groups will check in with the volunteer supervisor, grab a water and red polo/jacket from the usher room, then walk to their assigned gate. PMI staff/volunteer supervisors can provide direction. Groups typically stay together, but on occasion, several group members may be asked to scan at a separate gate. A gate supervisor will train groups using a handheld ticket scanning device. There are also self-scanning pedestals at some gates (which Lambeau is transitioning to). Gate supervisors will set groups up by the bike racks, then you will scan all incoming fans' tickets. Lambeau Field is 100% mobile ticketing. If you have any ticketing issues, gate supervisors are there to help and be a resource! Groups normally stay 30-45 minutes after kick-off, then are released by their gate supervisor. Volunteers are asked to thank the fans for coming and be engaged in the fun! You will be standing your entire shift. Individuals must wear tan or black pants (no shorts, no capris). Any shirt is fine as PMI will provide a red polo/jacket to wear over your shirt. Ponchos, sunscreen, and water are provided. Shifts:

  • Friday, August 28, 4:00-8:30 pm – Packers vs. Cardinals
  • Sunday, September 6, 3:30-8:00 pm – Badgers vs. Notre Dame
  • Thursday, September 24, 4:15-8:45 pm – Packers vs. Falcons

CASA Volunteer Training - October 6, 13, and 20

Every child deserves someone who shows up for them. When children experience abuse, neglect, or uncertainty, their world can change in ways no child should have to navigate alone. During these challenging times, having a consistent, caring adult in their corner can make all the difference. A CASA volunteer provides something every child deserves: a relationship built on trust, stability, and support. Through regular weekly visits, just one hour at a time, CASA volunteers get to know a child, listen to what matters to them, learn about their hopes and challenges, and advocate for their best interests throughout the court process. The next CASA volunteer training class begins in October, and they are looking for community members who are ready to be that steady presence for a child. You don't need to have all the answers, you simply need the willingness to show up, listen, and make a meaningful difference through consistency and connection. Because every child deserves to know they are seen, they are heard, and they are not facing difficult moments alone.

Becoming a CASA volunteer is a journey, and you don't have to take the first step alone. If you're ready to make a meaningful impact in the life of a child right here in our community, CASA would love the opportunity to connect with you, answer your questions, and guide you through the process of becoming an advocate. Training class: October 6, 13, and 20, 5:30-8:30 pm each evening. Minimum age: 21. Click here to learn more.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Hospice Volunteers

Aurora at Home Hospice is a not-for-profit organization providing end-of-life care and support services to patients and family members. Volunteering for hospice helps ease this burden by providing companionship, comfort, and other services to people receiving hospice care. Their volunteers also provide support for the families of people receiving care at the end of life. Roles include:

  • Companion volunteers spend time with patients who have a serious illness. These volunteers may provide respite for caregivers or socialization for patients.
  • Veterans in their volunteer program help other veterans through the end-of-life transition by providing a listening ear and comforting presence. Hospice volunteers in the Veterans for Veterans program also honor and celebrate veterans with pinning ceremonies in recognition of their service.
  • Pet therapy volunteers use certified pet therapy dogs to spread joy, reduce anxiety, and ease fears for patients and visitors alike. All therapy dogs must have their Animal-Assisted Therapy Certification to participate in these volunteer programs.
  • Bereavement callers place calls to patients' homes six months after their loss, providing families with a listening ear.
  • Community outreach volunteers assist with expos and distributing marketing materials.

Flexible shifts. Minimum age: 18.

Pals Program

Volunteer as a family with the Pals Program! Family volunteering is a great way for families to spend quality time together while contributing to their community and learning valuable life lessons. It offers opportunities to bond, develop empathy, and instill a sense of social responsibility in children. The Pals Program is a mentoring program for children aged 3 through 17 years old who are referred by Child Protection Services. They can match a child with a family based on compatibility. You can spend time as a family with this child at monthly activities or by yourselves at your home or in the community. This is a flexible program for the whole family to be a part of! Couples and individuals are also welcome. Flexible shifts. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Parent Pal Volunteers

This program connects mentors with parents referred by Brown County Child Protective Services in an effort to provide informal support to families who seek guidance and empowerment. Goals include:

  • Helping parents develop essential skills that promote a safe and healthy family environment
  • Offering emotional and practical support to enhance parenting skills and family dynamics
  • Fostering a meaningful relationship between mentors and parents, based on compatibility and mutual interest.

Mentors are encouraged to meet with their Parent Pal two to three times per month, providing consistent support and advice. While matches can last as long as both parties are interested, they hope to see mentors engaged with their Parent Pal for one year. Parents will learn new strategies for parenting and family management. By gaining support, parents can feel more confident in their abilities to provide a nurturing environment. The program contributes to creating a safer and healthier atmosphere for minor children. This mentoring initiative not only enriches the lives of families but also strengthens the community as a whole. By investing in our parents, we are investing in the future of our children and the well-being of our society. Flexible shifts. Minimum age: 18.

Pregnancy and Adoption Meal Train for Birth Parents

When a woman chooses adoption, she does so out of deep love for her child. Many of the women Catholic Charities serves are already parenting, working full-time, and facing life without a strong support system. While Catholic Charities walks alongside them throughout their adoption journey, the weeks following delivery can be especially difficult. They are seeking volunteers to form a meal train team for birth parents who have recently placed a child for adoption. Ideally, a team will consist of three to four volunteers who work together to provide two meals per week during the first month after delivery. By sharing the commitment among a small group, volunteers can provide consistent support while making the opportunity manageable for everyone involved. Flexible shifts. Minimum age: 18.
