Volunteers of the Week

The Service League of Green Bay provides services to children and teens in the Brown County region. The group's largest project is the Back to School Store, which takes place every August. The event provides over 1,500 children all the items they need to start the school year off on the right foot. Each student receives a new backpack, new school supplies, a new outfit and shoes, a dental screening and, most importantly, renewed self-confidence.
In 2014, the funding for the Back to School Store was behind and it was looking as though the number of kids served would have to be reduced. The group decided they couldn't let this happen. Members stepped up and worked extra hard to come up with the additional funding to make sure kids were not turned down.
The Service League also provides donation of items including baby supplies, household supplies like dishes and cleaning items to various nonprofits in the area including Golden House, House of Hope, and Brown County Health Department. These donations come from Service League members and from funds raised by the group to purchase the items.
Thank you, Service League, for all of your hard work!

Big Brothers Big Sisters has over 120 children waiting for a mentor. Volunteers can make a difference in the life of a child by meeting just 2 - 4 times a month. Volunteers benefit as much as the children! Jeremy is one of the boys who is waiting. His little brother has health problems and his mom has her hands full dealing with his needs. Jeremy's dad isn't in his life and at 10 years old, he's very aware of his friends talking about their fathers and activities they do together. He enjoys being outdoors and would like to try ice fishing, ice skating and skiing. He's very shy and quiet when meeting new people, so he needs a patient man or a married couple who can help him come out of his shell. Contact Big Brothers Big Sisters at 920-498-2227 or
nancyr@bbbsnew.org to learn more about becoming a mentor.
