Volunteer of the Week
The One Dream Team are our Volunteers of the Week!

The Unity Walk was an idea that was formed by a group of individuals who felt the need to create something in the community that would excite others and bring neighbors together. With so many people dying from shootings and violence on a steady rise in cities around the world, the One Dream Team was determined to make a difference during this tragic time. Their vision was to help eliminate unnecessary deaths due to violence, hate, fear and stereotyping. They saw a need to strengthen their community and build relationships. The Unity Walk brought all members in the community together in a non-threatening environment. This event has allowed the community to interact with the Green Bay Police Department and the Green Bay Fire Department in a way that is not normally done. They wanted this to be a solution to the ever-growing problems of violence and hate in the world and promote unity in the community.

The Unity Walk was designed to eliminate fear and concerns felt among everyone by acting as a stepping stone to build relationships within the community. The walk provided members of the community the opportunity to see a firetruck, the armadillo vehicle and squad car up close. Families were also able to speak with officials in uniform in a casual environment eliminating the fear to do so in the future. There was a 3K walk with a free t shirts given to all in attendance. There was also a DJ who played music while food was served and guest speakers to share how unity is important in our community.

The One Dream Team had a dream of bringing the community together in an effort to raise awareness to the sensitive issues of violence and racial despair. They believed these acts could be prevented by building relationships with the members of the community and law enforcement. The team knows that people will come together to work, cheer on or support a common interest and they were able to do that through the walk to promote unity. With the help and support of local organizations, the One Dream Team has had 3 successful
Unity Walk events, with the most recent event being on August 25.

Thank you, One Dream Team, for helping to create unity in our community!

Openings Available for Advocacy Training
with the Sexual Assault Center
Training in September or November

Have you been inspired by the bravery amongst sexual assault survivors speaking out? Are you looking for a way to stand with those survivors and make a lasting impact in our community? If so, The Sexual Assault Center, needs you to join their volunteer team! No experience is necessary as all advocates receive extensive training prior to working with victims of Sexual Violence. A new training program prepares advocates and is more flexible for those with busy schedules. Self-paced learning modules combined with on-site training and shadowing experiences prepare advocates for this work. Advocates play an important role in victims’ healing process as they not only field incoming hotline calls, but also respond to hospitals or police stations to provide immediate support and information. Volunteers sign up for three shifts each month that work with their schedule and attend monthly meetings with other advocates, to maintain protocols and expand knowledge.

To inquire, apply online and the volunteer coordinator will send you more information to get started!

Available shifts: Weekday nights 5:00 pm-7:00 am; weekend days 7:00 am-7:00 pm; and weekend nights 7:00 pm-7:00 am
