Volunteer of the Week
Mike Westenberg , affectionately referred to as the Food Dude at St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter, has been serving as the food coordinator for the shelter for 8 years. He coordinates the dozens of groups that prepare dinner offsite. These groups then serve the dinner to nearly a hundred hungry people who struggle with hunger and homelessness each night of the 180 day shelter season.

As chairperson of the homeless shelter, Mike has overseen the development of the Micah Center, a daytime resource center that opened its doors last October and has served hundreds of people who struggle with poverty and homelessness issues in our community. Mike has also been a vital part of JOSHUA, the ecumenical justice advocacy group that has helped us all be more aware of the issues of poverty and homelessness in Brown County and beyond.

Thank you, Mike, for your hard work and dedication!
