Garritt Bader is our volunteer of the week!

Garritt is an invested seven-year member of On Broadway’s board of directors who contributes significant amounts of time and high levels of expertise to the organization, helping to guide their vision. They honored him with the “100+ Hours of Service” award for his time spent volunteering in 2021. Garritt has devoted a great deal of time to making the Broadway Public Market redevelopment project possible. This project will provide an opportunity for a brick-and-mortar location for over 25 new and/or small businesses in this district. It is projected that it will attract one million visitors annually, which will positively impact current and future nearby businesses, as well as residents living in the area. 

Volunteering with On Broadway is a passion for Garritt. He is selflessly bringing the public market project to life to help transform the Broadway District and improve the community he loves. He has a vision for what our downtown can be, and he is passionate and solution-focused about making it happen. Thank you, Garritt! Your influence has played a key role in the revitalization of the Broadway District, which is one of many things that make Green Bay a destination worth visiting.

Polar Express Train Ride - December 9-11

The National Railroad Museum is excited to host the Polar Express Train Ride. Volunteers are needed both inside and outside to help with crowds, ticketing, and serving hot chocolate. Click here for timeslots and volunteer positions. Shifts: 3:00-9:00 pm (Friday), 1:00-5:15 pm and 5:00-9:00 pm (Saturday), and 3:00-9:00 pm (Sunday). Volunteers ages 10-14 should be accompanied by a parent.

Christkindlmarket - December 9 and 16

Volunteers are needed to assist in two areas at this outdoor market:

• Serve beverages in the beverage tent. Requires cash handling. 
• Greet visitors, track attendance, and distribute surveys for attendee information to submit for economic impact. 

Shifts: 4:30-7:00 pm and 7:00-9:30 pm. Minimum age: 18.

Winter Wine and Beer Walks - December 9 and 16

Guests will enjoy tastings from local wineries, breweries and a few eateries while visiting businesses and exploring the Broadway District. Everyone who volunteers will receive a free Wine and Beer Walk ticket for the date of their choice. Various volunteer roles are available:

• Check in guests on an iPad - Assist with checking in guests using Eventbrite. You will be given directions on how to use the app before starting this simple process.
• Wine/beer server/card punch - Assist a Broadway business by being available to them to help with serving beverages and punching cards. Please indicate if you have a valid servers' license.
• Check IDs - Checking IDs for 21+ guests.
• Wristbands - Put wristbands on guests as they enter Old Fort Square.
• Merch table - Sell Winter Wine and Beer Walk scarves and hats at Old Fort Square, which requires cash- and card-handling.

Shifts: 4:30-6:30 pm (check-in, checking IDs, wristbands), 4:30-9:00 pm (wine/beer/card punch and merch table). Minimum age: 21.

Packer Game Ticket Scanning and Seat Rental - December 19, plus other dates

Ticket scanners: Volunteers will be given a handheld ticket scanning device and, once at their assigned gate, a supervisor will train them on its use. Shifts last 3.5-4.5 hours (see below for start times). Groups normally stay 30-45 minutes after kick-off and will then be released by their gate supervisor. Minimum age: 16.

Seat rental: A supervisor will distribute handheld card readers to volunteers and provide training on them (Lambeau Field is cashless and takes cards only). Once fans start coming into the stadium, groups will sell the rental seats ($8 each, currently). Some volunteers will be handling card transactions while others will be handing the seats to the fans as they pay for them. Physical requirements: standing entire shift (one person may sit), bending, and lifting up to 5 pounds. Shifts last 3.5-4.5 hours (see below for start times). Groups stay 30-45 minutes after kickoff and are then released by the supervisor to return to the usher room and check out. Minimum age: 16.

Toys for Tots Distribution - December 20-22

Help parents find the perfect gift! Volunteer roles include shoppers, cart assistance, vehicle loaders, greeters, stockers, meal assembly, and guest check-in. Bilingual Hmong and Spanish translators also are needed. In addition, toy sorters are needed on various dates from November 30-December 15. Location: former Shopko East Town at 2430 E. Mason, Green Bay. Various shifts. Minimum age: 14.

Family Fun Night at the Kroc - January 27, plus other dates

Volunteers are needed to greet and direct guests; help with craft, snack or family activities; and assist with end-of-event duties like clean-up and closing. A free ticket will be available for each volunteer so their child can be part of the night! Shift: 5:00-8:00 pm. Additional dates: February 24, March 17, and May 19. Minimum age: 16.

Holiday Stockings

The holiday season can be a tough time for some people. Aurora Hospice is looking for 25-30 holiday stockings to give to their hospice patients over the holidays. You can prefill them with stocking stuffers or just supply the stocking.

Companions/Friendly Hospice Visitors

Volunteers are the heart of hospice! Aurora is looking for kind, caring individuals to provide companionship and be a friendly visitor to their patients in end-of-life care. Patients are in facilities or at their homes throughout the Brown County area, so there is likely a person in need conveniently close to you. A visitor brightens their day and lightens your heart.

As a hospice visitor volunteer, you may:

• Provide active listening and a caring presence
• Read a book or listen to their favorite music
• Play games or take walks as they are able
• Participate in life review or just hear their stories
• Be present while a caregiver rests
• Remember special days
• Laugh with them
• Or just hold their hand while they rest

Training is provided so you can be confident and comfortable in doing an excellent job as a companion volunteer. You will develop soft social skills such as active listening and empathetic companionship in a health care setting. This can reflect well on a resume. Shifts: Volunteers typically visit with a patient once a week for 1-2 hours. Scheduling is flexible. Minimum age: 18.

Veteran Volunteers

Compassus Hospice's veteran-to-veteran program aims to pair recruited veteran volunteers with hospice patients who have been identified as veterans. Veteran volunteers are important because they are able to form a camaraderie with veteran patients. These volunteers can help by taking part in pinning ceremonies and/or distributing certificates, providing companionship by paying friendly visits, and providing respite for caregivers. Flexible shifts. Minimum age: 18.

Girl Scout Troop Leaders

The Girl Scouts are looking for volunteers that love to learn new things, help girls grow into courageous leaders, and have fun! As a troop leader at Susie C. Altmayer Elementary and/or Heritage Elementary, you are able to choose when and how often your troop will meet. You will plan troop meetings, fun events, and more. Flexible shifts from December-June. Minimum age: 18.

Newcomers Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for a variety of duties:

• Research things to do in Green Bay, the history of the area, fun facts, activities, recipes, desserts, quotes, and jokes. These items are needed for the weekly calendar that is emailed to over 2,600 in the community.
• Distribution of Newcomers' Resource Guide
• Photography and videos
• Light office work such as mailing, phone calling, and data entry

Volunteer Coordinator

New Leaf Foods' committed board of directors, community connections and support, and bountiful variety of experiences will allow their volunteer coordinator to flourish both professionally and personally while working to create a sustainable local food system. Their small, dedicated group of volunteers comes together to provide an extraordinary educational experience unique to our community and unique to each individual's expertise and desired areas of growth. The volunteer coordinator, an unpaid position, will work collaboratively with New Leaf Foods' board of directors to develop their community volunteer coordination strategies, including outreach and marketing, recruiting volunteers, volunteer communications, maintaining the volunteer database, and overseeing volunteer training and onboarding. Reading Coach Volunteers

It only takes an hour a week to make a difference to a child! Research shows that third graders who have proficient reading skills are nearly five times more likely to graduate high school than their peers who do not. Yet in many of our area schools, 70% of third graders test below proficient for on-track readiness in English Language Arts.

Reading Coaches for Kids is a volunteer tutoring program designed to increase students' reading abilities and academic success by providing volunteers who read individually with students in Brown County K-5 classrooms during the regular school year and summer school. Reading Coaches must pass a background check. No educational background is needed; training and ongoing support are provided, and trainings are regularly scheduled throughout the year. The Reading Coaches program is especially looking for volunteers ages 55+ to be a part of the Retired/Senior Volunteer Program to provide intergenerational experiences. Shifts: various times during the school day; a minimum commitment of one hour per week during the school year is preferred. Unity Resale Shoppe, a part of Unity Hospice, would like volunteers to help with various duties, including accepting, cleaning, and sorting donations; pricing and staging merchandise on the sales floor; and working the cash register. Shelter Support

The Wisconsin Humane Society-Green Bay Campus is looking for volunteers to help support the shelter.
