The Volunteer Center - Reading Coaches for Kids is a volunteer tutoring program designed to increase students reading abilities and academic success. the program takes place during the school day over the course of the school year and focuses on kindergarten through third grade. Kids who do not read at proficiency by the 4th grade are four times more likely to drop out of school.
Reading Coaches would like to recognize Jeanne Wanner for the dedication she puts into their program as well as their kids. Jeanne tutors for 1-2 hours per week during the school year and three hours a week with the summer reading program. She is able to provide the children with an opportunity for them to read, to hear and to ask comprehension questions that they may not otherwise be able to do at home.
Jeanne takes the time to get to know each child and makes their time with her special by treating their needs as individually as they are. Sometimes she is fortunate enough to tutor some of the same students who have moved on to the next grade and she can see how far they have come from being in the program. If she has time, she will also assist the teachers in correcting papers or as needed in the classrooms.
Reading Coaches for Kids is very fortunate to have a volunteer like Jeanne and would like to thank her for helping to guide and support their kids to becoming successful readers, as well as all the help she provides the teaching staff.
