Gina Peotter is our Volunteer of the Week as well as our
WPS Volunteer Awards Leadership Award winner!
Losing a loved one is an incredibly traumatic experience at any age, but can be especially difficult and isolating for young people. Gina Peotter understands that better than most.
After losing her parents in college, she came to understand the need for affordable and accessible grief care for school-aged children. With the help of a friend, Gina founded Hope’s House in 2018 to address this need within the community. Hope’s House provides free bereavement support services, resources, and peer-to-peer grief support groups. In addition to being the executive director, Gina has worked tirelessly in a variety of other roles, including managing their marketing, creating budgets, fundraising, and planning and evaluating programming. She also designed a curriculum and trained 35 community volunteers to serve as program facilitators for Hope’s House. All of this was done in an effort to remove any barriers that would prevent a grieving child from being able to benefit from the services they provide.
Currently, Hope's House supports more than 40 kids, and Pulaski High School has also adopted the curriculum to provide ongoing, internal grief support to their students. Parents and social workers have reported that kids involved with Hope's House are sharing their feelings more openly, are smiling again, have been doing better academically, and are making friends again. Some have even said Hope's House is their child's favorite place to be!
Gina is proof that hope can grow from the seeds of grief. Congratulations and keep up the great work!

Brown County will not conduct business on
Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27.
Our staff will resume normal (work-from-home) business hours on

Mountain of Food: Sorting, Packing, and Delivery - November 27 and 28
Help sort and bag donated food items on Friday, November 27 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1731 St. Agnes Dr., Green Bay. 6:00-7:30 pm
On Saturday, November 28, drivers are needed to deliver the food to families in need. Each family will also receive a New Testament and a prayer letter letting them know the gifts are coming from the Lord. Volunteers will be provided with maps and contact information for each family. Meet at 9:00 am
at Pilgrim Lutheran Church (address above).

Social Media Volunteer - Ongoing
A volunteer who enjoys posting on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter in a Christian and professional manner is needed at Acts 1:8 Ministry. They may also support the marketing plan in order to grow awareness of the ministry and raise support. Responsibilities include creating content for social media platforms, assisting with researching social media trends, creating content that enhances and encourages donations and volunteers, and other duties as assigned. The volunteer should have good time management, organizational, problem-solving, written communication, and interpersonal skills; should be creative; and should have strong computer and social media abilities (education, experience and knowledge in journalism, communications or social media is preferred). This part-time volunteer opportunity will take approximately an hour per day and is currently located at the Acts 1:8 Ministry office in Green Bay; however, remote volunteer opportunities are also available. Minimum age: 18.

IT Specialist Volunteer - Ongoing
Acts 1:8 Ministry is looking for a volunteer who is an IT specialist who can help them with the following: (1) Put their server information on the cloud, and then train their staff on how to access and save information. The goal in doing this is so the staff can access all their information from home; (2) Audit all their IT systems and networks. This would also include giving them a list of options, cost and time frames on when these would be good to complete; (3) Direct the staff to finding a grant that helps out nonprofits to update computers and systems. Minimum age: 21.

Estate Planning Volunteer - Ongoing
Support and strengthen the estate planning program to grow support and raise awareness to further Acts 1:8 Ministry’s mission. Key responsibilities: develop and grow the estate planning program by researching cost-effective ways to bring the program to large groups, give presentations about the program in front of individuals and groups, and researching grants to help grow the program. The volunteer must have the following skills: time management and organizational skills, strong oral and written communication, problem-solving skills, the ability to manage and meet deadlines, detailed-oriented and the ability to multitask, outgoing and a cheerful disposition, strong interpersonal skills, and must be good with a computer (including Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel). They are seeking volunteers that have a passion for estate planning and sharing their mission: training Christians to evangelize through kindness. Estate planning certification or knowledge, and five years of work experience is preferred. This part-time volunteer opportunity will be done at the Acts 1:8 Ministry office in Green Bay. Minimum age: 25.

Meals on Wheels Delivery Drivers - Ongoing
Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver lunch to homebound older adults in Brown County. Deliver once a week, twice a week, or as your schedule allows. Volunteers must have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record. Minimum age: 18.

Pals Program Mentors - Ongoing
Volunteer mentors spend time in a recreational or learning activity with a child, age 3 or older, that has been referred by Brown County Child Protective Services. Volunteer mentors help the child adjust to the separation or loss of a parent, enhance self-esteem and confidence, and learn new skills. Matches are invited to attend a fun activity each month that is free of charge. Matches are based on compatibility and can continue for as long as both parties are interested, though it is hoped that volunteers would engage with their Pal for a minimum of one year. Minimum age: 18.

Volunteer Drivers - Ongoing
Assist with transporting children and families safely to and from authorized visits and appointments. Drivers are reimbursed for their mileage, and must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record. Minimum age: 18.

Volunteer Drivers for Seniors and People with Disabilities - Ongoing
The impact of COVID-19 has significantly disrupted Curative Connections' transportation services program and is posing a threat to their ability to provide low-cost rides to those who have no other way to get to essential appointments. They are seeking volunteers to drive seniors and people with disabilities to and from appointments, jobs, the grocery store, and more. Volunteers will offer door-to-door assistance to clients as needed. Curative provides training, vehicles, gas, and insurance. No CDL or heavy lifting required. Volunteers must have a valid Wisconsin driver's license and a good driving record. Work as little or as often as you'd like; shifts are four or five hours, Monday-Friday. Learn more here. Clean Team Volunteers - Ongoing
Come help keep our downtown looking great while getting in those steps and checking out the new businesses in the downtown districts. Clean Team duties include trash pick-up (that’s right, you get a super-cool grabby thing to pick up trash with) and weeding (work those biceps!). Hours are flexible, but they are asking for a minimum commitment of two hours per week (You want more? Go for it!). Minimum age of 14 unless accompanied by an adult (they think all volunteers are great, but volunteers can’t be shorter than their pickers are long).

Litter Cleanup Volunteers - Ongoing
The Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance has set a goal of picking up 2,000 pieces of litter throughout the Fox River/Wolf River watershed basin, and they need your help! Make a difference together by following these steps. Download the Litterati app from the App Store or Google Play, set up an account, and join the challenge using the code 920H20. Then find and photograph a piece of litter, discard the litter, and tag the photo.

Daily Shrine Greeter - Ongoing
Assist Shrine pilgrims by welcoming them, directing them to various locations on the grounds, and answering their questions. Daily shifts are available between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. Minimum age: 18.

New Leaf Garden Blitz Planning Team - Ongoing
From May 20-23, 2021, New Leaf Foods will 'blitz' Green Bay with raised bed gardens. These gardens will be installed at homes, businesses, and organizations across the community. The New Leaf Foods team is currently forming their planning team for the 2021 event and have volunteer opportunities in several areas: communications, volunteer coordination, garden mentorship, logistics, and resource development. Holiday Helpers: Hanging Room Assistants - Ongoing
Sort and hang clothing donations in a neat/orderly fashion. Location: St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store - East (920 Weise St.). Shifts: 3-hour shifts are preferred. Volunteer anytime between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. Minimum age: 16.

Resale Shoppe Volunteers - Ongoing
Unity Hospice is looking for volunteers to staff the Resale Shoppe. Duties may include receiving, sorting, pricing, and merchandising donations or may include assisting on the sales floor and cashiering. Volunteers must wear masks during orientation and during their shifts. Available shifts: Monday-Thursday from 10:00 am-6:00 pm, Friday from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, and Saturday from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. The Unity Resale Shoppe is located at 1641 Commanche Ave., Suite G in Green Bay. Minimum age: 18.
