Volunteer of the Week
DAV Chapter 3 Honor Guard is our Volunteer of the Week!

The Russell Leicht Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 3 has been honoring veterans by serving at military funerals for over 10 years. This can be weekly, daily and sometimes several within one day. Bob Krausert is the Commander of the DAV Chapter 3 Honor Guard, having started it up over eight years ago. He organizes a minimum group of seven volunteer veterans to attend the funerals of veterans in Brown County and many outlying areas. He makes sure everyone is in full Honor Guard uniform, has their ceremonial rifle, and that a bugler is available to perform "Taps." Bob also makes sure that each family of the deceased receives a United States of America flag, a metal burial coin minted especially for fallen soldiers, as well as a small velvet bag, which holds the empty rifle shells after the rifle salute has been conducted. He works with all of the local funeral homes to provide the service whenever they require, never turning a request down.

Of course, due to the nature of the need for service, the Honor Guard's activity is sporadic, but never wavering. Bob and his team are a trustworthy group and are often requested by families further away who have learned of the Honor Guard's stoic professionalism. Most families are in awe of the solemn yet emotional duties performed by the Honor Guard, and it makes that family feel even more special to know how much their loved one was appreciated and honored. Bob Krausert carries a cell phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to receive calls requesting a military funeral service, and within moments of receiving such a request, he brings together Honor Guard members to conduct the service. He has earned the loyal respect of many community veterans, who gladly volunteer to perform this important service. Bob and his Honor Guard team go to one funeral after another without complaint, performing their military honors with great respect for the deceased veteran and his or her family. This can be an emotional strain on anyone but they do it over and over again with a high level of professionalism and genuine care.

Thank you DAV Chapter 3 Honor Guard for your professionalism and genuine care for the families of fallen soldiers in our community!
