myTEAM TRIUMPH Wisconsin Chapter is an athletic mentoring program that pairs individuals with disabilities (called"Captains") with able-bodied athletes (called "Angels") to compete in road races and triathlons. Using specially-designed race equipment, Angels push or pull their Captains to the finish line, enabling them to experience the excitement and triumph of participating in community races.

Angels Athletes serve as the legs and lungs, but our Captains are truly the heart of each team. In 2015, more than 700 people in northeast Wisconsin volunteered to serve as Angel Athletes, with many participating in more than one race. Per the mission of myTEAM TRIUMPH, the time that they gave did not simply encompass race day, but also time spent getting to know their Captains and preparing their bodies, minds, and spirits to enable their Captains to cross the finish line. The relationships that are built last long past race day, and in many cases result in lifelong friendships between Angels and the Captains they serve.

The mission of myTEAM TRIUMPH is to enrich the health and well-being of individuals with disabilities by fostering lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletics. Being a relatively new organization, with a few exceptions, it was impossible for individuals with disabilities to participate in local races due to the lack of proper equipment. Thanks to the assistance of a dedicated staff, all of whom are angel athletes themselves, myTEAM TRIUMPH slowly began to be able to purchase racing chairs, and popular races like the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon and the Bellin Run were better able to accommodate all athletes who wanted to participate, regardless of disability.

When the Angels volunteer, it is a selfless act meant to recognize the true humanity in others, and in themselves. Though they go into volunteering thinking that they are going to help those in need, whatever that need may be, they often come out the other side having been transformed themselves.

Thank you from myTEAM TRIUMPH to all of the Angels who are so willing and giving to all of our Captains!  We couldn't do what we do without all of you!
