Volunteer of the Week

Tanya Westmoreland is our volunteer of the week!

New Leaf Foods’ Garden Blitz builds and installs garden boxes to help inspire families to grow their own food and enjoy the health benefits of gardening. After receiving two garden boxes for her service in the military, Tanya’s gratitude drove her to begin volunteering with this event, and in 2022, she served as the volunteer coordinator. This role is a part-time volunteer position from August until June, and last year, Tanya spent over 880 hours on it. She attended planning meetings, contacted potential volunteers, worked with the team during the entire event checking in volunteers, and filled in wherever was needed.

Tanya is also the president of her Seymour Park neighborhood association and the Seymour Park community garden. In addition, she volunteers weekly with Paul’s Pantry and provides a pantry on her porch for anyone who needs food. When she received help with repairs on her house, Tanya started volunteering with NeighborWorks Green Bay where she is now on the board of directors.

As a military veteran, Tanya uses her training to ensure the security and safety of her neighborhood. She has a fearless approach to crime and is a one-woman army when it comes to the neighborhood watch. Working closely with neighbors and police, she helped curb crime in Seymour Park and make it a family-friendly place again. Tanya was initially homeless when she arrived in Green Bay, but even during those difficult times she found a way to give back. She lived at a local shelter and helped out by doing maintenance and security while she got back on her feet. Thank you, Tanya, for the respect, love, and compassion you show others and the many ways you impact our community!
