Randy Johnson is our volunteer of the week!

Randy has been a volunteer with the Aging & Disability Resource Center of Brown County (ADRC) since 2009. He lives his personal mission of impacting the community through his volunteer work at multiple agencies and within his faith community. As the ADRC board chair, he has guided the agency through some of their most challenging and exciting times. Randy participated in many major recruitment and hiring interviews/selections for high level positions in the agency and led the ADRC through COVID. Randy has also been a home delivered meal driver, doing the important work of connecting one-on-one with older isolated individuals living in their homes. He not only brought a hot meal, but also a smile and encouraging word to each person he touched. 

Randy has also been the biggest cheerleader for the ADRC’s Grounded Café. He is an ambassador for this work, and it’s likely that everyone he knows has come for coffee. Persons with disabilities face stigma, isolation, unemployment, and inequities. This project guarantees the ADRC is living their mission. Using the café as a launchpad for inclusion, Randy works to assure all people are part of a community solution to tackling stereotypes. As board chair, he also helped steer the application for a food truck to bring the good work of the cafe out into the community.

Randy leads quietly and supportively in every role he holds. He finds himself facilitating, organizing, strategizing, and energizing everyone around him without ever expecting to. His natural gifts of engaging people and inspiring leaders to be better are just a part of who he is. To that end, he has been the chair of other non-profits that have benefited much like the ADRC has. Foundations Health and Wholeness, Solihten, and Encompass are just a few. He selflessly gives of his time and exceptional leadership skills to these non-profits, which become stronger, more focused, and impactful under his leadership. Thank you, Randy! Those around you are changed, inspired, and better for having known you.

CASA Youth Meals - February 2 and March 19 and 27

You, your group or a local restaurant can sponsor and provide a meal for CASA youth as they learn about skills to transition into independent living at the CASA office. CASA is a volunteer-based nonprofit that provides a voice for children/youth who have experienced abuse and/or neglect and are under the legal protection of the court system. Each meal helps fuel CASA youth to successfully learn independent living skills and finish the day strong! This is a great family-friendly volunteer opportunity! Cafe Crawl - February 3

During this event, ticketholders can enjoy coffees, teas, and tasty treats from local businesses as a trolley takes them through Downtown Green Bay! CASA Volunteer Virtual Info Sessions - February 13 and 29 and March 12 and 28

All it takes is one person. Can you lend a voice? Volunteers are invited to join Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Brown County for a 30-minute virtual information session to learn how. CASA provides a voice for children who have experienced abuse and/or neglect and who are under court protection. From CASA volunteer Mark: "It doesn't take a lot of time to make a difference in a child's life." Children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to report higher levels of hope, do better in school, and achieve permanency in a safe home more quickly. YOU can make a difference! Reading Coaches Initial Training - February 19

Reading Coaches for Kids is a volunteer tutoring program designed to increase students’ reading abilities and literacy skills by training and placing volunteers who read individually with students in area schools. Volunteers are placed in kindergarten through 5th grade classrooms for one hour a week during the regular school day. Training and ongoing support are provided. The Reading Coaches program is especially looking for volunteers ages 55+ to be a part of the Retired/Senior Volunteer Program to provide intergenerational experiences for the children. Once trained, tutoring takes place at various times during the school day, and a minimum commitment of one hour per week during the school year is requested. Volunteer Coaches - March 11-May 22

Girls on the Run is a youth development program that combines social/emotional learning with physical activity. Running is integrated into lessons to empower youth to feel joyful, healthy, and confident. Volunteer coaches lead lessons from a research-based curriculum book. Achieve Brown County is looking for one or more dedicated volunteers who can complete data entry work for their small team. This person would update information and enter donor data into their database. Volunteer should be comfortable working on a laptop. Flexible shifts, Monday-Thursday between 9:00 am-2:00 pm. Medicare Outreach

This volunteer role includes the following duties:

• Meet with groups (average 25 individuals) to provide information and counseling on Medicare Parts A, B, C, and D; Medicare tools; and other Medicare topics
• Demonstrate Medicare Part D Planfinder and other online tools to groups and/or work one-on-one with consumers and family members 
• Conduct PowerPoint presentations and use appropriate handouts to provide information
• Screen/assist consumers in connecting with other benefit programs as deemed appropriate
• Track and timely report volunteer activities using designated reporting mechanisms (information to be reported includes, but is not limited to, hours, mileage, number of consumer contacts, and customer demographics)

Individuals interested in volunteering will:

• Complete all required training as provided to volunteers
• Have the ability to speak before small groups and/or work one-on-one with consumers and family members
• Display knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products and have the ability to use various internet websites
• Display patience and empathy and possess a cheerful and friendly disposition
• Possess a valid driver’s license with current insurance and a good driving record
• Pass a background check that includes contact with references and public authorities
• Not be an active insurance agent nor have an immediate family member who is an active insurance agent

Family Interaction Volunteers

Volunteers assist the department by providing supervision to children that are in out-of-home care during scheduled visits with their parents. The assigned volunteer is responsible for providing a safe, physically and emotionally secure environment during the visit. Visits typically occur at the Family Center or the department. The volunteer’s time commitment is flexible and determined by the hours they want to work and the available assignments. Typically, the volunteer supervises the same family on the same day and time each week.

Flexible shifts, but a three-month commitment is requested to limit the number of volunteers to whom children are exposed. Minimum age: 18.

Volunteer Drivers

Brown County Health and Human Services relies heavily on the assistance of their volunteer drivers. Those willing to help typically assist with transporting children and families safely to and from authorized visits and appointments. Examples of types of assistance include:

• Bringing children that reside in out-of-home care to scheduled visits with their parents
• Transporting a family lacking a safe/stable vehicle to an appointment
• Picking a child up from school.

Catholic Charities would like volunteers to assist in several different roles:

Spanish-English Interpreter

Catholic Charities Financial Health is seeking a volunteer who will be needed occasionally for help interpreting at Spanish-speaking financial appointments. Days/times can be flexible to coordinate with the schedules of everyone involved.

Guest Presenter

The individual volunteering in this role will give financial education presentations (such as teaching classes) on various financial literacy topics within the community. There is a great need for financial literacy all throughout the diocese. Training provided as needed! 

ASL Interpreter

Catholic Charities Financial Health seeks a volunteer who will be needed occasionally to interpret ASL (American Sign Language) for client appointments. Days/times can be flexible to coordinate with the schedules of everyone involved.

Refugee Resettlement Assistance

Help refugee families in these important ways:

• Pick them up at the airport
• Provide a culturally appropriate welcome meal
• Distribute seasonally appropriate clothing for work, school, and every day
• Assist in transporting individuals to initial appointments (job interviews, doctor appointments, school appointments)
• Assist with completing public benefits applications such as Medicaid, SNAP, etc.
• Assist with enrollment in an English language program

Volunteers will sign up for a 90-day contract to help a refugee family. Anything beyond that is up to the volunteer. Minimum age: 18.

Home Preparation Volunteers

Ecumenical Partnership for Housing provides homes for families facing homelessness. When they have a family exit their program, they need volunteers to help get the home ready to house the next family. In this process, they go into the home, clean each room, and get it reset for the next family. Volunteers will be cleaning, doing light laundry, and setting up homes in the Brown County area. Flexible shifts between 7:00 am-8:00 pm, based on volunteers’ schedule. Individuals under 16 must be accompanied by someone over the age of 18.

Science and Engineering Kit Refurbishment

As a volunteer with the Einstein Project, you will be involved in refurbishing STEM kits for classroom use. By refurbishing these kits, you play a vital role in ensuring that students have access to high-quality educational resources. Side Walking and/or Horse Leading

Side walkers walk alongside the horse and rider and assist in keeping that rider safe during their session. Following direction from a therapist, side walkers may be asked to engage with their riders and assist in therapeutic activities unique to each rider. Side walkers also assist in sanitizing equipment after each session including helmets, belts, toys, and therapy equipment.

No experience is necessary. Training is provided.

Horse leaders control the equine during therapy and adaptive riding sessions and, with direction from the therapist or instructor, are responsible for maintaining a safe and effective session. Horse leaders must have previous horse experience through riding lessons, owning or leasing a horse, or other comparable experiences. Duties include leading the equine during sessions, grooming, tacking and untacking, bringing in or turning out horses, basic barn chores, and other duties as needed. Shifts: 9:00 am-6:30 pm (Mondays), 11:30 am-6:00 pm (Tuesdays), 9:00 am-7:00 pm (Wednesdays), 10:30 am-7:00 pm (Thursdays), and some Friday mornings. Minimum age: 14.

Outreach Volunteers

Help fight fraud in the Medicare system and protect beneficiaries from being victims of scams. You're invited to join the Senior Medicare Patrol volunteer team. Through outreach, they educate Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers on how to prevent healthcare fraud and provides tips on how they can protect themselves.
