Tom Blaney decided 13 years ago that he wanted to make a difference in his community. In 1992, Tom suffered a heart attack and was told that only half of his heart was functional and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. In order for Tom to lead a normal life, he would need a heart transplant.
After an 11 year wait, he received news that a match was found and he would get the transplant he needed. Ever since the procedure, Tom has dedicated his life to paying it forward and making a positive impact on those in need. "Nearly 14 years ago, I received the best donation of all time," Tom said. He wanted to give back and he had heard so many good things about
The Salvation Army and the work that they do in their community, so he decided he would help out during their annual Christmas Red Kettle campaign by ringing bells every day at various red kettle locations throughout the community.
Tom is involved in many initiatives during The Salvation Army's Christmas Campaign and also helps with Christmas Assistance Distribution as well as the Coats for Kids Collection every year. Though most of his 550 volunteer hours each year are spent manning a kettle location, Tom enjoys helping where ever he is needed.
"Bell ringers like Tom make more of an impact than they will ever know. His generosity and sincere care about the well-being of this community is overwhelming," said Major Bob Mueller, The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay Coordinator." Having a volunteer like Tom, helps to ensure that dollars donated to the kettles during the Christmas Campaign, will provide funding through the holiday as well as year round for The Salvation Army's programs for those in need.
The Salvation Army would like to thank Tom for his many hours of volunteering and for helping make the Red Kettle Campaign a success!
