The Crisis Center is looking for volunteers to help with various aspects of their Safe Place program. They are looking for volunteers to do Community Outreach, Data Entry, and Crisis Responders.
Thank You For Volunteering This Year!
We know 2020 has been a difficult, and unconventional year. We've all faced challenges we never could have anticipated. On behalf of the nonprofit community, we want to say THANK YOU for stepping up and continuing to serve during these trying times. Your dedication to helping Lake County families has never been more appreciated. The way you responded to the unprecedented need gives us all hope for a better tomorrow.
This year, your support allowed us to respond to a huge unforeseen demand for the basics: food, rent, and utility assistance. We all may be eager to put this challenging pandemic behind us, but we know that the coming months are going to be very difficult for many of our neighbors. We’re grateful for the way that you care and continue to respond to the need by giving of your time and talents.
As 2020 draws to a close, we look forward to a brighter 2021. We look forward to a time when we can return to normalcy and gather together for events and volunteer projects. We hope we'll be able to host many of our normal activities like Unity In Our Community Week, PackaPalooza, and the STAR Awards in the new year, though if we still aren't able to safely gather we will make sure to continue finding ways to make these and other volunteer projects happen.
We are also eager to continue exploring new avenues of volunteering, including expanding on virtual volunteer opportunities and at home volunteer activities. Lake Area United Way will continue to work with our nonprofit partners to think of new and creative ways for you to volunteer.
So from our nonprofit family to yours, we wish you a very safe and happy holidays! We look forward to seeing you again in the new year!
Help Support Lake County Families This Winter
The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the lives of tens of thousands of Lake County residents. Families are still out of work and can’t afford to pay their rent or utilities. The need for food assistance is at a record high, and the need for quality, affordable child care has been highlighted like never before due to the shift from school-based to e-learning.
But this moment is also an opportunity to build a better future. One that includes every person in our community. As our country and community recover from the pandemic, we will see greater need for years to come. Consider this:
Unemployment in Lake County, Indiana, is 8.7% up from 4.2% in 2019 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
More than 1 in 10 don’t know where their next meal is coming from (Feeding America)
Approximately 300,000 Hoosier households are at risk of eviction due to COVID-19 (Prosperity Indiana)
Every day Lake Area United Way helps chip away at these problems. The progress we make is only possible because of investments by community members.
Do you know how your investment can help families during this difficult time?
$25 provides a family of four with meals for a week.
$50 provides a family of six with a holiday meal.
$125 provides a school aged child from a low-income family with a week of after school care.
$500 provides two families with utility assistance for the month so they can keep the heat on this winter.
$1,000 provides a family with rent assistance for a month to make sure they don’t become homeless this winter.
The future will be different than we once imagined. But it can also be better than we ever dreamed it could be. Together we can help Lake County families get through the COVID crisis. Together, we can help families thrive. And when our families thrive, our communities thrive!
