9 Ways to Help During the Coronavirus Pandemic

We know that social distancing is a the key to beating this virus, however we also know that many of you are still very driven to help others and give back to your communities. COVID-19 Volunteer Opportunities

Due to the current crisis many nonprofits have cancelled their regular volunteer opportunities to help stop the spread of the virus. There are still ways you can volunteer and give back however. We are in constant contact with our local partners to find out what their volunteer needs are during this crisis. As we get that information we are adding it to our volunteerlakecounty.org website. We have a dedicated page for COVID-19 specific project which you can access here. All of the projects that are currently on this page are listed in the column on the left. If you are able to volunteer for any of these projects please consider doing so. Many of them can be done in the safety of your own home.

There are also plenty of virtual volunteer opportunities that you can take part in via your computer. Points of Light has a great listing of organizations around the world that need virtual volunteers. You can check that list out here. Virtual volunteer opportunities are also great for kids and teens who are stuck at home due to school closures.

You Can Help Your Neighbors In Need

NWI COVID-19 Community Economic Relief Fund

If you aren't able to volunteer, but would still like to help those in our community who have been affected by this virus, you can do so by supporting the NWI COVID-19 Community Economic Relief Fund. This fund was created by Lake Area United Way to support our local nonprofits and help meet the increased needs for services that they are seeing. 100% of the funds raised will go to local nonprofit organizations to allow them to better serve our local families in need. So far the fund has raised over $56,500 through donations from corporate partners and generous individuals throughout the community.
