Volunteer Appreciation Week Re-Cap
Apr il marked National Volunteer Week and here at Manna we made sure to take the time to let our volunteers know just how much we appreciate them.  With the help of our friend Chef Paul, we were able to host
lunch  for our volunteers all week.  Our evening and weekend volunteers also  received a small token of our appreciation .
We would not be able to help so many families each day without the hard work and
dedication of all our volunteers and please know that you are
appreciated every day!
Thank You!!!!

Farmers Markets Volunteers Needed

SSL hours available
Manna is excited to be partnering with 4 local Farmers Markets again this year.  Volunteers are needed to staff a table for Manna, collecting food and funds while engaging with customers!  Toward the end of the market, the volunteers will assist the Market Manager in purchasing food from the farmers with funds collected that day.  When our truck arrives, you help bag and load the food on to our Manna truck.
Below are the times/days/locations of the Markets.
Locations, Days, and Times:
Rockville Pike Central - Saturdays , 9am - 1:30pm ( June 3 - Nov 18)
Rockville Town Center - Saturdays , 9am - 1pm ( June 3 - Nov 18)
Bethesda Central - Sundays , 9am - 1:30pm ( June 4 - Nov 19)
Olney Market - Sundays , 9am - 1pm ( June 4 - Nov 19)
Please follow the links below to sign up for your preferred date and location.  Please note the sign-up process is different this year.  Each market has its own sign up and you can see all available slots.  Sign-ups are on a first come first served basis and we are still able to accommodate more than one group per market (up to the maximum 5).  Please click on the market you wish to volunteer.
Please let me know if you have any questions.  We appreciate you volunteering with us this Market season-- securing much needed fresh produce to help feed and nourish our neighbors.  Questions? Contact  Mardia
Why I Volunteer

Meet Jenny W., a volunteer who decided to share her birthday with Manna:

Jenny's Philanthropy With Food Fest Thing For her 40th Birthday #3!

I'm taking a group to volunteer at the  Manna Food Center. My group is full, but I encourage  everyone to volunteer or donate. Here's a list of reasons why:
1) They are a 4-star charity on Charity Navigator. 94.7% of their funds go toward operations!
2) They are incredibly smart about using volunteers efficiently. Some help distribute food, some pack, some sort, some help in the administrative office (Evelyn Chan, this is you, right??), some specialize in certain tasks like sorting canned goods or fresh foods.
3) Every Friday, they send 2,450 school children home with a bag of food to combat weekend hunger. If that doesn't embiggen your heart a little, you are probably a zombie.
4) They share food with 38,000 of our MoCo neighbors.
5) Middle school and high school kids can get their SSL hours here. My kids have gone twice now for box-packing and have an unexpectedly fun time doing it.
6) Volunteering here is so good for the soul. If you go on a family volunteer night, you work alongside other families, and you all help each other by the end. The last time I went, I arrived in a foul, hideous mood for one reason or another, but left feeling positively ebullient.
My parents' charity also donates regularly, so if you don't have the time to go volunteer, that's an option too  :) Go here for more info.
Thank You Jenny!!!
