501(c)3 Designation
(by Charlie Fitzgerald)
As many of you know, our conference created a new corporation, in the State of Maryland, and applied to the Internal Revenue Service for its own charitable tax exemption and public charity status under Code Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)2), in May, 2018.
The name of the new corporation is the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Saints Peter and Paul Conference, Inc. The Corporation received an IRS Determination Approval letter, dated February 15, 2019. The Determination Letter qualifies the new entity under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3) as exempt from federal income tax and IRS code Section 509(a)(2) as a Public Charity. Our new operating status began on October 1, 2018.
Formerly, the SSPP Easton conference was qualified under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(2) as a subordinate conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of the Diocese of Wilmington, Inc. The former relationship qualified our conference as a public charity under a group exemption with the National Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. The former group exemption was terminated as of 9/30/18. Our new entity replaces that prior relationship, beginning October 1, 2018.
We will be responsible for our own tax filings with the Internal Revenue Service and the State of Maryland. All contributions to the SSPP conference should be made under the new corporate name. Our conference will still remain under the guidance of the National Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and the Wilmington Council for all other purposes.

"Did You Know?" - A Recruiting Campaign
Friendly Neighbor Ministry Urgently Needs Additional Volunteers
Did you know that the
Friendly Neighbor Ministry provides our senior and homebound neighbors with socialization and friendship? The elderly are often forgotten members of our society and our
Friendly Neighbors reach out to those who need companionship and personal support. Our volunteers offer
a smiling face, a listening ear and the understanding heart of a faith-based community.
Their goal is to make sure these individuals remain important members of
our community.
We match our volunteers with elderly or homebound individuals who
would like somebody to visit on a regular basis.
Visits may be face to face, by telephone or a combination of both.
If you wish to become a
Friendly Neighbor, give us a call or email us at:

Vinnie and Pat's Event 2019
|
|
The 5th annual Vinnie and Pat's dinner was held on Thursday, March 21st at the Easton Volunteer Fire Department. Almost 200 Vincentians attended this evening of fun celebrating St. Patrick and St. Vincent de Paul. A fine Irish dinner of corned beef and cabbage (with delectable desserts) was enjoyed by all...
Susie's Catering did a fantastic job.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who give so generously of your talents and time throughout the year to help the needy.

Home Visitation Ongoing Projects
(Information provided by Steven Cossu)
Our examination of SVdP's outreach support for Talbot County's transitional alcohol and drug recovery programs is nearing completion. These groups are the Gratitude House, the Humble House, Mid-Shore Fresh Start and the RAD (Rising Above Disease) House. All of the organizations have been examined, extensive interviews with the program managers and some residents residents were conducted. A report will be available soon.We have been welcomed and our efforts have opened up new avenues of support.
~~~~~~~
Walt Unti
has volunteered to teach an entrepreneurial course for the residents of Mid-Shore Fresh Start. In such a short period of time it is starting to reap noticeable rewards. One of his students, with Walt's help, started his own "car detailing" business. His name is Merv and his company's name is Merv's Detail World 410 829 4254. We encourage you to give him a try.
~~~~~~~
Congratulations to
Rich Brusca
who bagged an elk during his Fall hunting trip, and donated over 100 lbs of elk chop meat to SVDP's pantry.
~~~~~~~
As a result of
Chris Dozier's
efforts we are exploring opportunities to better serve our community through potential family / individual mentoring programs.
Volunteering with SVdP for over four years,
Alan Spicher
is the first person people see when entering the Home Visitation area; welcoming them with a warm greeting. He has mastered CMS software and has become a person the staff tremendously relies upon.
His responsibilities include updating the SVdP Master List, which he sends to department heads monthly.
Alan
is well loved and respected; quietly going about his work, but he is very knowledgeable about the whole department.
