Texas Golf Association Announcement:

TGA Crowns 111th Texas Amateur Champion

From Aug. 6-9, the TGA hosted the 111th Texas Amateur at Boot Ranch Golf Club in Fredericksburg.

Trey Bosco of Austin carded rounds of 72-71-67-69 to claim the title by one stroke. Bosco will began his collegiate golf career this fall at Baylor University and is the second straight Bear to hoist the H.L. Edwards Memorial Trophy.

The TGA was committed to providing a safe environment for everyone involved in this year's championship. It was a very successful week and we extend our sincere appreciation to all of our volunteers who helped make it a great championship. Learn more here.

TGA Fall Series: The TGA is excited to announce a new series of 54-hole weekday competitions created to provide more playing opportunities to those who lost chances to compete due to COVID-19. These events are still in the works and we will provide more information in next month's newsletter.

Jack Grimes, 1942-2020

We are sad to inform you that longtime TGA Volunteer Jack Grimes passed away Sunday, Aug. 21. Jack was a dedicated TGA volunteer for many years and was recognized as the South Volunteer of the Year in 2017. Besides his love and devotion for the game of golf, he loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with family. Jack was a loving and devoted family man who leaves behind a wife and two daughters. His impact on our championships will be greatly missed. At this time there are no services planned due to COVID-19. Please keep his wife Cheryl, and the rest of the Grimes family in your prayers.

We will provide more information regarding a service in the coming weeks.

Penalty Areas: Know Your Options

Penalty areas come in many shapes and sizes. Some contain water or grass, some are rocky and others are smooth. Regardless of the size, shape and contents of a penalty area, your relief options are always classified between two categories: yellow and red.

TGA Foundation:

TGA Foundation Launches New Initiative in San Antonio

The Texas Golf Association Foundation is launching the Youth on Course program in the San Antonio area for 2020.

Youth on Course (YOC) gives juniors access to play golf for $5 or less at 11 courses in the San Antonio area, as well as more courses all over the country. To learn more about the program, check out the link below.

The Texas Golf Association Volunteer Program was formed in 2005 with only a handful of volunteers. Today, the program proudly hosts a roster of 250 men and women including several on USGA boards and committees.
