Volunteer Newsletter Fall 2015

Hello Volunteers,

We hope you are all enjoying this Fall season! In this update, we want to share with you some news and notes from the Volunteer Program, and as always, if you have any feedback, suggestions, or ideas, feel free to send them to Kyle at [email protected].

Referral Incentive Program

As we've mentioned in previous updates, our One-to-One Volunteer Program continues to grow and improve every month. However, we still have a lengthy list of individuals who are blind/visually impaired (B/VI) who are waiting for a volunteer. Therefore, our top priority continues to remain recruiting and training new volunteers.

We truly believe that our best ambassadors are our current volunteers - hearing you describe how rewarding of an experience volunteering is for yourself as well as your consumer is one of the best ways to get more people involved.

As such, we are asking each of you for your support to help recruit new volunteers. We encourage you to share your experiences with friends, family, co-workers, etc. and let them know that if they are interested, they can email Jen at [email protected], call her at 617-972-9119, or visit our website and fill out our Online Volunteer Application Form.

As a bonus, if you refer someone who attends one of our volunteer trainings, you will be entered to receive a prize! Thanks to those of you who have already referred individuals to our trainings. The first prize, a CVS $50 gift card, goes to Dayu Li, who referred not one but two people to our program! Way to go Dayu!

Workplace Engagement

We are actively looking to engage local businesses to partner with in helping us to recruit new volunteers, and you can help!

Do you work for a company or organization in which we can come in for a quick presentation to staff? We can come any time: morning, lunchtime, or after work. Recruit even just a few co-workers to attend and we will even provide food! (And who doesn't love free food?)

In as little time as 30 minutes, we can pitch our program, talk about the impact volunteering has, and, if you feel comfortable, you can share your own experience as a volunteer.

Please email or call Kyle if you would like to help with this.

Ongoing Training & Support

As our program grows, we want to ensure that you continue to be supported, especially as challenges may arise with your consumer.
Therefore, we've recently been kicking around the idea of providing follow-up trainings for anyone who would like additional support.

What do you think about this idea? Are there specific topics that you would like to discuss? Shoot Kyle a quick email to let us know what you think!

Volunteer
 Appreciation Dinner

Thank you to all who came out to our recent Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at Otto Pizza in Brookline. Pizza was eaten, raffle prizes were won, and fun was had! And of course, we always love getting the chance to get to know our volunteers better and to thank you for all that you do.

Stay tuned for upcoming volunteer appreciation events!

Final Thoughts

Finally, we love to hear about how things are going with your consumer. Please email Jen at [email protected] or myself at [email protected] to let us know what you have been up to.

Thanks again for all that you do!

Sincerely,
