Spring Day of Service: Sign Up Today!

On Saturday, April 11, people of all ages and abilities will find projects to join in as we serve local and global neighbors. Projects will take place both at the church and out in the community. We’ll begin the morning with breakfast and prayer at 8:30 a.m. in Frampton Fellowship Hall before dispersing to our various worksites. Most projects will wrap up by noon (if not sooner). Sign-ups and project details can be found on our volunteer page. You can also sign up in Frampton Fellowship Hall this Sunday.

The Latest at Aden

Last Thursday, the members of our Aden Program for Elder Care were visited by Godly Play practitioner/story teller Ashley Bond. She is the Director of Formation at Trinity Episcopal Church, and she was happy to volunteer her time and talents for us. The mission of Godly Play is to make meaning through story, wonder, and play.

Café Reconcile

Last week, members of the SCAPC Community Ministry Committee attended the graduation ceremony for interns of Café Reconcile's Workforce Development Program. This program is designed as a positive youth development space that supports the career exploration and job readiness opportunities of young people 16 to 24 years old. Interns earn industry credentials, explore career and educational pathways that suit their individual abilities, and experience real-world, on the job training in their training restaurant, Cafe Reconcile. Café Reconcile is one of SCAPC's community ministry partners. Pictured from left are Darlene Guillot, Jane Rasi, two graduates, and Richard Ashmore.

Associate Pastor Search: Your Input Welcome

As we as a congregation reflect on the job description for the Associate Pastor position, the Personnel Committee of the Session also seeks feedback and further response from the congregation. We have an opportunity to make adjustments in the job description and to make changes as we seek to serve the whole of the church's ministry in this next season. Please pass along any reflections and feedback to Gillian Egan, Personnel Committee Chair, at gillian.w.egan@gmail.com. The Associate Pastor has primary responsibilities in leading and serving the church's community ministry, global ministry, community outreach efforts, RHINO Disaster Response Team efforts, the Aden Program, and community partnerships like STAIR, Café Reconcile, Program of Hope, etc. The Associate Pastor also supports churchwide volunteer opportunities and partnerships with community and global partners and their evaluation and outcome assessment. The Associate Pastor also supports the Membership Committee and works to help engage newcomers to our church, especially young adults, as we seek to engage and support those members of the SCAPC community. The Associate Pastor also preaches and leads worship regularly and works with the Senior Pastor and Parish Associate to support pastoral and congregational care and congregational fellowship events on Sundays and Wednesday Nights. In addition to these areas, please pass along other areas of suggested focus and support to Gillian Egan.

Painting by Auseklis Ozols to be Exhibited at Studio Waveland

You may have noticed that the exquisite painting, "At the Benediction," that normally hangs in our entry hallway, is absent. This great work of art was created by the late Auseklis Ozols, longtime SCAPC member whose gifts to the church include the portrait of Don Frampton in Frampton Fellowship Hall. "At the Benediction" is owned by SCAPC members Dian and Tom Winingder who have generously leant the work to the church for the last several years. It will be on display at "The Birds" exhibit at the Studio Waveland Art Gallery on March 31 through May 23. Curator Carol Leake saw the work while attending Auseklis' memorial service in October and requested that it be included in the exhibit. She states, "Auseklis has a considerable following on the Gulf Coast and his painting will greatly enhance the show and will indeed be something of a centerpiece." The gallery is located at 228 Coleman Avenue in Waveland, Mississippi.

Sympathy

Our sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Patty Minga and Kathy White, members of our Presbyterian Women's Synod of the Sun. Kathy and Patty were traveling to a PW Synod Gathering last Thursday, March 12, and were killed in an auto accident. Pictured below at foreground left is Kathy and across in a blue headband is Patty, attending a PW Synod Gathering at SCAPC in 2022.
