Chapter Competitions begin Saturday, February 1; the first of 7 contests in Feb at middle schools throughout MA, leading up to the State Competition on March 7
|
|
Here's how
YOU
can make a DIFFERENCE
and be part of the success as students compete to
represent our state at the National Competition in May:
|
|
OPPORTUNITY #1:
VOLUNTEER just 3 to 4 hours of your time
at one (or more) of 8 competitions
Nearly
100 volunteers are needed to support 7 Chapter Competitions in February at middle schools throughout the state, as well as the State Competition in March.
No experience is necessary; you must simply be over 21 and not related to a competing student. The commitment is
just 3 to 4 hours, and volunteers serve as proctors or scorers.
See the competition schedule below for competition dates, and email the Chapter Coordinator of any competition for which you can volunteer.
OPPORTUNITY #2:
IF You Cannot Volunteer in Person...
The seven state-wide chapter competitions depend on donations to provide:
- FOOD for 900+ students
- TROPHIES for Chapter & State winners
- T-SHIRTS for Team Massachusetts
- SUPPLIES and Postage
Your tax-deductible support of ANY size will greatly benefit the students,
and be recognized by more than 1,000 people – including students, parents, volunteers, and perhaps even the media.

MATHCOUNTS is a national math enrichment and competition program for 6th, 7th and 8th graders (middle school students),
run entirely by volunteers and sponsors.
|
|
WHY MATHCOUNTS?
Math is a vital skill, and a
foundation of disciplines like science, engineering, and technology. For more than 30 years, Mass MATHCOUNTS has been providing math enrichment and competitive opportunities to middle school students throughout the Commonwealth. Through the grass-roots efforts of volunteers and the support of the Massachusetts Society of Professional Engineers (
mspe.com), the competition program has grown to serve over 900 students each year.
This support enables our students to consistently win and place among the top 10 teams and individuals in the nation. It also enables students to ultimately be productive employees who can solve problems, work in teams, and support their employer’s success.
If you or your firm values promoting a passion for math and STEM-related careers, then Massachusetts MATHCOUNTS is your opportunity to make a real difference.
This worthy program cannot continue to experience double-digit growth and adequately serve the students without the support of new volunteers and and tax-deductible donations from firms and individuals.

FACTS TO BE PROUD OF:
- Last year, more than 800 Massachusetts students from 110 schools participated in 7 Chapter Competitions. The top 150 students advanced to State Competition, where 4 were crowned as the State Team, and represented MA at the National Competition.
- At the 2019 National Competition, our state ranked #1 IN THE NATION!
- NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE without the efforts and dedication of volunteers who support our state's seven chapters, including Chapter Coordinators, and those who support chapter competitions by donating their time, or providing monetary contributions.

About the National MATHCOUNTS Competition Series
and the schools & students that it benefits

A Personal Appeal from John Hayden, PE
Mass MATHCOUNTS State Coordinator

|
Each year since 1996, I have witnessed and experienced first-hand the incredible satisfaction of watching middle school students grow to become vital problem solvers, well-positioned to enhance their communities, their professions*, and indeed our world.
MATHCOUNTS is a grass roots program run mostly by volunteers. Across the state, myself and 6 chapter coordinators organize and run the 7 chapter competitions and the state competition, assisted by nearly 100 volunteers.
Last school-year, we served more than 800 students, representing 110 schools, and our state WON the National Competition in May, surpassing 56 other teams!
Like most grass roots programs, we depend on the support of volunteers and donors. Please consider volunteering, or donating to the program, or at the very least, helping to get the word out.
On behalf of the students, thank you for your consideration and support.
Sincerely,
