A Word from the Pastor
Sunday Worship
10 a.m. in Sanctuary
Online worship at 10 a.m. on Facebook
We’re in Jesus’ synagogue in Nazareth, and he has just read Isaiah’s prophecy about the work of the Messiah. There are times when words are more than word, when they speak of a truth far greater than themselves. Along with the synagogue worshippers we find ourselves in a very sacred moment: The Word of God is among us. What was once written is now reality. See you Sunday!
Rev. David Eardley
Sunday Worship
10 a.m. in Hickey Hall
Have you ever wished you were something you're not? Have you ever wished you were not something you are? Have you ever said, when asked to live out your baptismal vows, "I'm just me, nothing special to offer. Other members have so much more to give...more faithful, more talented, more biblical knowledge..." The Apostle Paul, in today's Epistle text, says, "Balderdash!" (I'm sure that was a Greek word
he would have used). To explain his reaction to similar responses from church members at Corinth, Paul likens the church to a body, the body of Christ, and used that metaphor to explain how the church should operate. Paul told the Corinthians and tells us, "You matter because the Body won't be the Body without you; without the gift you bring; without the person you are. There is no gift that cannot be used to build up the Body." Again, in the Greek... "All, Y'ALL, are the Body of Christ!" Y'all come!
