Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month!

Volunteers are essential to the success of the Park District.

What made you get into volunteering?

I am an avid soccer and volleyball fan & player. I always took my kids to my games. When my middle daughter wanted to play at 4 years old, she told me would only do it if I led the practices. I was just happy to be a part of her journey and to share what I had learned after being in the sport for all these years. Now she is 6 and my other little girl is now 4 and she is just starting her soccer journey. The same goes for my oldest. She is in 8th grade and loves volleyball as much as I do. It is so much fun watching them learn week after week!

Share a fun fact about yourself.

I love pasta and I love candy, but I hate candy on my pasta.

What’s been your favorite volunteer memory?

Over the years, some kids on my team have been reserved and timid. Watching them grow more confident week in and week-out. Until they finally break out of their shell and ball out!

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who has just started volunteering at the Park District?

We do it for the kids. It's hard to balance work, family, and volunteering. Sometimes it can get overwhelming, so it's important to remember why we are there and how much of a difference we are making in the kids' lives. Have fun with it!
