Hospitality, restaurant, construction, and other area workers help make Northern Michigan a wonderful place to live, work, and play. Unfortunately, these are some of the folks hardest hit in the crisis.
Knowing that many of these workers often lived paycheck-to-paycheck even before COVID-19, a group of caring Harbor Springs residents and KorthaseFlinn Insurance approached Manna to explore ways to help.
The solution: drive-thru, mobile pantries at Boyne Highlands and Odawa Casino.
While the Boyne Highlands location has completed its four-week run, Odawa Casino is running strong. Our first date at the casino served exactly
100 households! A line of 15 or so cars was waiting for us to start. We'll be there every Friday through May 22.
Some of these folks told us they had been employees of the host sites, recently laid-off due to the crisis; others were picking up food for their coworkers who were unable to leave the kids at home. The majority had never asked for food assistance before. Thank you to our volunteers who have helped us with this cool project!
