While Holly Wilson has only been a volunteer with AACY for the past six months, when she moved from Atlanta, GA to West Palm Beach, FL, she has made a great impact as both a mentor, driver and events volunteer.
Holly has volunteered since she was a little girl, so as soon as she moved down to Florida, she wanted to find a program where she could get connected. While her friends describe her as the "fiercely independent boss babe who they call for advice," it wasn't always that way. Holly didn't grow up in the best of home situations, however, all the negative stuff she went through really helped her to see things from different perspectives. She knows what is it like to need help and not know where to find it. More importantly, she knows what is like to find good people who can change your life for the better.
When Holly sees pain and struggle, she can't help but find ways to make a positive impact, even if it is just an encouraging word.
Holly has formed a close bond with her mentee, Alaysha, as well as with her friends. Some of the girls in the mentor program have gone for a pool party in Holly's community. Holly is the first to offer to drive students to events, ensuring they can have fun and just be kids for a while.
Holly has been able to pay it forward, as she owes a lot of her success to her mentor, Alicia. From stepping up as a more independent woman, to really taking care of herself physically, mentally and emotionally.
AACY is truly blessed to have such a caring heart as part of our volunteer squad.
