Could Your Organization
Use the Help of AmeriCorps VISTA or Senior Corps RSVP Volunteers?
The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is seeking concept papers for the AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program. AmeriCorps VISTA is a full-time national service program for organizations interested in developing lasting solutions to address poverty. VISTA members are placed with a sponsor organization to develop and expand services and programs that help lift low-income individuals out of poverty. If your organization would like to learn more about VISTA, don't miss a webinar on Sept. 5th, at 2pm. The next round of concept papers are due on October 1, 2019.
Senior Corps RSVP Grant Applications are now being accepted by the Corporation for National and Community Service. RSVP engages people age 55 and older in a diverse range of volunteer activities, including tutoring children, renovating homes, teaching English to immigrants, assisting victims of natural disasters, providing independent living services, and much more. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a Notice of Intent to Apply by August 30th. The deadline for applications is September 25th.
Meet Our Newest Team Members!
The Virginia Office on Volunteerism and Community Services is excited to announce two new staff members to the AmeriCorps team.

Shannon Girouard will serve as the Fiscal Officer for Virginia's AmeriCorps programs. Shannon began working in grants administration in the affordable housing and homeless services arena at the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development in 1993. Since that time, she has worked in state government in a variety of grants administration positions in the fields of higher education, homeland security, social services, and the environment.

Samantha Lukasiewicz has joined OVCS as an AmeriCorps Program Officer. Samantha previously served as an AmeriCorps VISTA alum herself in Lee County and went on to become a VISTA Leader in Roanoke at The Advancement Foundation (TAF). She was later hired as staff to start and run an AmeriCorps State program at TAF. For the last two years, she has been living in Raleigh, NC, working with the City of Raleigh running a program in the Community Engagement Division of the Housing & Neighborhoods Department called Volunteer Raleigh.
Ever Wonder How AmeriCorps Could Help Your Organization?
If you are curious about what AmeriCorps is or how an AmeriCorps program could expand the reach of your programs, we'd love to hear from you - and this is the perfect time of year for those discussions. Our next full application process will begin in December/January for AmeriCorps programs that would start in September 2020. We will be seeking new applicants and we'd love to talk to you about AmeriCorps in general and our Virginia priorities. If you'd like information or like to join one of our regional outreach sessions, please contact our Virginia AmeriCorps Program Manager, Roxanne Saunders, 804-726-7931, [email protected].
