2018-19 AmeriCorps Programs in Virginia

The Virginia Office on Volunteerism and Community Services (which serves as the Virginia State Service Commission) is proud to announce the  2018-19 AmeriCorps State Grantees . There are 16 programs this year located throughout the Commonwealth focusing on community needs in education and youth, economic opportunity, environmental stewardship, and healthy futures. We are excited to announce four new AmeriCorps State programs to Virginia: Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg - Academic Success Programming, the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research - SERVEIT, The Advancement Foundation, and VCU Professional Corps. Virginia's AmeriCorps programs will gather on September 27, in Richmond, to take the AmeriCorps oath and make their pledge for a year of service to the Commonwealth.
September is for Service:
Opportunities for You
to Serve this Month!

Several national and regional service initiatives are taking place throughout September offering multiple volunteer opportunities for you to serve your community.

Day to Serve (Sept. 11-Oct. 10) is a multi-state effort that transcends politics and religious differences by uniting people of all faiths, races, cultures, and backgrounds with the goal of helping those in need.

9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance is a way for us to honor the individuals who lost their lives and those who served as first responders

Feed Virginia Day of Action (Sept. 13) raises awareness of organizations in Virginia working to increase food access in an effort to improve nutrition and end hunger.

National Preparedness Month seeks to increase the number of individuals, families, and communities that engage in preparedness actions at home, work, business, school, and places of worship.
Disasters Happen.
Be Prepared!

September is National Preparedness Month, providing an opportunity to remind us that we all must prepare ourselves and our families now and throughout the year. Use this month to learn  lifesaving skills (such as CPR and first aid) and check your insurance policies and coverage for the hazards you may face, such as flood, earthquakes, and tornadoes. Make sure to consider the costs associated with disasters and save for an emergency. Also, know how to take practical safety steps like shutting off water and gas.
