September Volunteer News
A monthly update on all things volunteer at Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County
Roofing installation was accomplished with Dustin Ward Roofing LLC's generous donation of skilled labor.
Construction volunteer update
August was a busy month on the Gold Bar site! Michael and Vickie continued building their home with the help of individual volunteers and groups. In the last few weeks, volunteers have completed roofing and plumbing and neared completion of the siding and electrical. Thank you to all who are volunteering to build this home!

Coming up next month, we’ll need to complete several inspections before beginning the drywall installation.

We want to give a special thank you to Owens Corning for the donation of roof shingles ($750 value) and Dustin Ward Roofing LLC for the donation of skilled labor ($1,800 value). We are also grateful for the monthly volunteer groups from the Navy and the Wounded Warriors Project.

September will be a busy month on the build site and we can use more help! If you’re interested in volunteering on the build site, please attend a volunteer orientation. Build days are every Wednesday and occasional Saturdays.

Lunch donations are still needed for our volunteers on the build site! Please contact volunteer@habitatsnohomish.org if you’re interested in donating lunch.
Urgent volunteer needs
We need a volunteer to help on our donations truck Mondays and/or Fridays! The donations truck volunteer will join our driver from 9 a.m. until early- or mid- afternoon to pick up donations. Assistance is greatly needed as there are many donations requiring two people to load and we cannot send the driver without a volunteer.

Volunteers are also needed at the Everett Habitat Store for all shifts.

If you’ve been to a volunteer orientation and would like to help, please register on our website for the Monday and/or Friday truck shifts or for available shifts at the Everett Habitat Store. Please contact volunteer@habitatsnohomish.org with any questions.
Grand Opening Smokey Point
The Smokey Point Habitat Store is now accepting donations! Volunteers are needed to assist in the donation center and to help operate the store.

The Smokey Point Grand Opening event is September 7th and volunteers are needed to help with this event as well. If you’re interested in volunteering September 7th, please contact volunteer@habitatsnohomish.org
Volunteer Spotlight:
Dan Tintinger
Dan Tintinger has been volunteering at Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County for four years. He volunteers three times per week in the Lynnwood store and also volunteered for the 2017 Global Village trip to the Philippines.

Dan is a retired Boeing Engineer who enjoys travelling. He was integral to helping our Habitat affiliate start the Global Village program and complete our first international home building trip. He worked hard to raise funds for his trip cost and to help with the team fundraiser.

During the Global Village trip, Dan volunteered with the team from our affiliate to help build six homes in a development of 500 homes in Pinamaylan, Mindoro. Much of the work is manual labor; power tools are not used for construction in the Philippines. Throughout the week, Dan helped with such tasks as excavating, mixing concrete, pouring concrete and placing blocks.
“Dan was an excellent teammate during our Global Village experience,” Team Leader Katie Rickel said. “He worked really hard and helped with all activities without complaint. He was also very engaged in each of the cultural aspects of the trip.”
In his regular volunteer duties with the Lynnwood Habitat Store, Dan is one of our “utility players”. He is always willing to help wherever needed each day, whether that’s accepting donations, preparing donations for the sales floor, loading items for customers, or cleaning.

“It takes a special volunteer like Dan to be able to come in, see what needs to be done and make that happen,” Lynnwood Habitat Store Manager Anita Sims said. “Many volunteers specialize in one task and that’s equally as important, but it’s rare to have a volunteer that can do everything and identify what’s most needed at any given time.”
