By planting trees, we can create vibrant green spaces for everyone to enjoy while also addressing the pressing issues of climate change and heat island effect.

This year's Latino Heritage Month Tree Planting event in Sun Valley marks the beginning of our planting season. I invite you to join us in planting trees throughout Los Angeles, enhancing our urban forests and improving our environment.

Whether you prefer to plant a tree with us at one of our events or enjoy the convenience of our delivery program or tree adoption events, there's an opportunity for everyone to participate.

Join the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works for a Community Tree Planting Event in Sun Valley!



Date: Saturday, October 12th 

Time: 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM 

Location: Valley Oaks Center for Enriched Studies, 9171 Telfair Ave, Sun Valley, CA 91352

Come celebrate Latino Heritage Month and give back to the community by planting trees in Sun Valley! This event, hosted by the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works in collaboration with Councilmember Imelda Padilla, Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, City Plants, Los Angeles Conservation Corps, and California Climate Action Corps, offers a chance to:

• Plant trees: Help create a greener, healthier Sun Valley by planting trees alongside community members and local partners.
• Free shade trees: Tiüvac'a'ai Tribal Conservation Corps will be hosting a Tree Adoption, offering free shade trees to Los Angeles residents and LADWP customers (while supplies last).
• Celebrate Latino Heritage: Enjoy the spirit of Latino Heritage Month with fellow community members.

This event is made possible by funding from the Inflation Reduction Act and the USDA Forest Service, Urban and Community Forestry Program.

How to Participate:

• Register here to volunteer: Sign up to volunteer at the event and be a part of this meaningful project
• Adopt a free yard tree: Stop by and pick up a FREE tree at the event. Proof of residence within the City of LA will be required to take a tree home for planting. For City Plants adoption rules, please visit our website.

North East Trees and City Plants are excited to launch the Tree Ambassador Program, a unique opportunity to kickstart your career in urban forestry while making a positive impact on your community.

Become a Tree Ambassador and:

• Gain valuable hands-on experience in urban forestry
• Learn essential tree care industry skills
• Build a strong network of professionals
• Develop leadership and teamwork skills
• Engage with your community and make a real difference
• Participate in a 12-week paid internship
• Earn $20 per hour

This program is perfect for you if:

• You live in South LA or a neighboring community
• You are 18 years or older
• You are legally authorized to work in the US
• You have a passion for trees and the environment

Tree Adoptions

Pick-up a shade tree in a neighborhood near you!

Walk-Ups Only! Trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Please note there is a 7 tree limit per household. for the lifetime of the address. Trees come in 5-gallon containers and are typically 3-6 feet tall. Yard trees must be planted in the ground on private property.
