APRIL 12, 2026

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month, and we are proud to celebrate the volunteers whose compassion and dedication strengthen our community. When individuals face illness, food insecurity, isolation, or the challenge of starting over, JFS volunteers are often the reassuring presence who lets them know they are not alone. They accompany older adults to appointments, deliver groceries, and offer comfort in hospitals -- small acts that make a lasting difference.

Last year, volunteers contributed more than 65,000 hours of service. We are also deeply grateful to our Board Members and Spring Celebration Committee, whose leadership and support help advance our mission.

Volunteer Impact in 2025:

  • 42,400 meals distributed
  • 2,600 hospital patients visited
  • 9,674 immigration services provided
  • 1,520 Supermarketing for Seniors trips

As we celebrate this month, we invite others to experience the joy of giving back. Just a few hours can brighten someone’s day. Click here to learn more. To our volunteers: Thank you. You are the heart of JFS!

JFS is pleased to welcome Megan Grasso as the new Assistant Clinical Director. Megan was drawn to JFS for its commitment to providing high-quality, insurance-based mental health care in Fairfield County, where affordable options are limited, as well as the strong, supportive culture of JFS. She brings five years of outpatient experience from Silver Hill Hospital, where she worked closely with leadership, supervised staff, and helped oversee clinical programming.

In her new role, Megan is passionate about supporting clinicians so they can do their best work and contributing to a culture of collaboration, compassion, and mutual respect. She is especially looking forward to helping oversee JFS partnerships with schools and the YMCA, expanding access to care by reducing the barriers of transportation and location. Outside of work, Megan enjoys gardening and spending time with her bunny, Wyatt.

JFS Norwich was proud to host a Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce (GNACC) networking event at our office, bringing together community partners and supporters for an impactful afternoon of connection and collaboration. We were thrilled to partner with Rose City Learning Center and Catholic Charities, Diocese of Norwich, organizations that share our commitment to serving those in need.

We are deeply grateful to the many community members who donated hygiene & basic assistance items during the event. These generous contributions will be distributed by all three organizations to clients across our area.

Thank you to GNACC and to everyone who participated and donated; your generosity and partnership truly make a difference in our community.

Volunteer Appreciation Month Spotlight: Natalia Huapaya

Natalia is a dedicated Compassionate Companions volunteer who truly make a difference. She is motivated by the work JFS does to help participants access care, especially when transportation is a barrier, and values being part of a larger purpose.

For Natalia, every call is meaningful. She enjoys providing company, building relationships over time, and connecting with participants in Spanish, helping them feel comfortable and heard in their own language.

Thank you, Natalia, for your compassion, your time, and your commitment to caring connections.

JFS is looking for compassionate community members who want to make a difference. Whether you can give an hour a week or help with a special project, your time and talents directly support our programs and the individuals and families we serve.
