24 Volunteer Crews This Fall

Our fall 2021 Volunteer Home Repair Program (VHRP) is underway. To repair homes, we bring in contractors to complete repairs, including roofing, structural stabilization, and plumbing and electrical upgrades. Then every fall and spring, volunteer crews complete external repairs and paint homes a color selected by the homeowner. This two part process ensures homes are safe and livable, and increase the pride our neighbors feel in their home. It also lets Rebuilding Together stretch every dollar to serve more families.

Over the next few weeks, more than 500 volunteers from 24 crews will bring their energy to this program. Many will spend two full Saturdays repairing homes in our community, helping our neighbors most in need. Thank you to the volunteer Crew Leaders for organizing the repairs, to our generous donors and partners, and to all the wonderful volunteers for taking time out of their lives to make a difference for someone else.

Volunteer Milestone: The 450th Project for bp America!

Over the past 32 years, bp America volunteers and Rebuilding Together have repaired the homes of 449 Houston families. This past Saturday, bp America volunteers completed repairs on the home of Mrs. Smith, a veteran’s widow, as their 450th project with us. This amazing milestone highlights the strength of our partnership and our impact on lives in our community.

East End Community Revitalization

East End Chamber of Commerce

Rebuilding Together remains committed to helping families in the East End stay safe and healthy in their homes. Ms. Melo has lived in her Second Ward home for almost 40 years and needed our help to make many crucial repairs. Earlier this year, a Wells Fargo Bank grant funded contractor work. Then on September 25, the East End Chamber of Commerce celebrated their 30th anniversary along with volunteers from Whitewall Construction, by completing exterior repairs and painting Ms. Melo's home, kicking off our fall season of neighbors helping neighbors.

Our Impact:

Repairs Reduce Stress for 67% of Homeowners, and Other Findings

RTImpact-Infographic-safety impact 21.jpg

From 2019 to 2021, Rebuilding Together partnered with an external evaluator to conduct impact measurement based on desired outcomes of our core practice model, Safe and Healthy Housing. These surveys were conducted across the United States and over 1,000 homes were assessed and 450 homeowners were interviewed, asking them about the changes they experienced since the repairs were made. Impact measurement touched on six domains: Community (inclusion and retention of housing stock), Safety, Physical Health, Mental Health, Economic Security, and Independence.
