Reading Buddies is off to a great start at FMA! This is the 27th year that Cambridge School Volunteers has run the Reading Buddies program at FMA and the first year with kindergarten students participating.

Every kindergarten, first- and second-grade student at FMA is paired with an adult volunteer who comes to read with them in their classroom. The Reading Buddies volunteers are made up of a combination of local community members and corporate volunteers from Audible, BioNTech, Sanofi, and the Volpe Center.

Students love the personalized attention from their buddies and benefit from listening to a fluent reader and having conversations about books.

So far the kindergarten and second-grade students have started reading with their buddies and the first grade will begin in March.

We are looking for community members to

NetPals Program Kickoff

CSV's NetPals program has been pairing seventh graders with STEM mentors from Cambridge corporations and universities for over 30 years. Mentors visit classrooms to advise mentees on science projects and share about their work, inspiring students to consider STEM career paths. Students also have the chance to practice professional email communication, building skills beyond science. The highlight of the program for students and volunteers alike is the site visit, during which each student gets to explore their mentor’s workplace!

We are excited to announce that all 7th graders from CSUS, RAUC, and PAUS have officially launched their NetPals journey, which will continue through May.

We are so grateful to our incredible

NetPals partners for their commitment to our students!

KeyPals Launch

KeyPals has been connecting STEM professionals with Cambridge Public Schools elementary students for over three decades. Currently, the program matches fifth graders at the Martin Luther King, Jr. School with mentors from MIT, Draper, and the Broad Institute.

Mentors teach students about their work and responsibilities, exposing them to STEM career paths. Volunteers appreciate giving back and connecting with their students through regular email correspondence as students practice valuable communication and relationship-building skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

The program just launched with a breakfast at school. It will include three field trips to our partner institutions and a final celebration of their time together.
