Volunteers Provide Hope in Action
|
|
Dear CRC Volunteer,
April is Volunteer Appreciation Month. While we are grateful all year long for the partnership you provide, the true, lasting value of your time, and the compassion you exhibit, this month we get to pause, and ponder it just a brief moment longer.
Summer Stephan, our San Diego County DA, spoke at our annual Tea fundraising event this past week on April 23rd. She shared many powerful statements, but one really stuck with me. She said, "We cannot just speak hope into someone's life. We must provide real support and concrete action."
CRC's staff, volunteers, donors and partners all play an incredible role in the lives of those who may come to CRC on their worst day. Not only can we provide a smile, comfort and perhaps empathy, but we help provide a path forward. A way to safety, a way to break cycles of domestic abuse and poverty. A way to a new life, a new home, a new future.
You are more than the sum of your volunteer hours. You are the heart of CRC's mission and we could not do the work we do without you. Thank you!

Food and Nutrition Center Reopening May 2nd!
After 2 years of following COVID safety protocols and providing a modified shopping experience for our clients, Community Resource Center is making plans to re-open on May 2. We are excited to provide the dignity of choice and the community market feel once again of the Food and Nutrition Center (FNC).
There were multiple steps to preparing for the reopening, including making sure we had a strong leadership team in place. We were able to shuffle people around, and bring back Duke Skaff to the Monday team as well as welcome David Hall and Gayle Patterson to a bigger responsibility. Thank you to our entire FNC leadership and volunteer team!

We also provided training for all FNC Volunteers on Thursday, April 28th. Here, we went over food safety and processes, volunteer policies and a general overview of CRC programs. A special thank you to ThinkParallax and Perspectives Coworking space for donating their room for our training!

While our volunteers were in training, we had another volunteer group come in to deep clean the shelves and check expiration dates on all shelf-stable items. This ensures that our participants have the best options when they start back to in-person shopping on Monday morning.

Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to set up, serve, work in the kitchen, handle registration, sell raffles, serve champagne, oversee the auction tables and tea treasures, and more! Many hands truly do make light work, and a beautiful event!

Congratulations Tea By the Sea Committee!
There aren’t really adequate words to express how much CRC appreciates everything the Tea committee did to make this event a success. Countless hours of creativity, sourcing materials, making items, meeting and discussing, packing and hauling … and then staying after the event to clean up, pack and take everything away.
Based on the comments of the attendees, we know the Tea was a great success. The décor, the raffle, treasures and auction, the soap gifts, the unbelievable tablescapes with centerpieces, the food and food service … all were stellar and combined to make a fabulous in-person experience. Everyone felt the community spirit, felt welcomed and felt appreciated.
The committee’s efforts make a huge impact on our neighbors who come to us for help. In support of CRC’s programs, the Tea raised over $96,000 (and still counting …). Thank you to everyone on the committee for your partnership in CRC’s mission!

May 14 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
|
The USPS Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is happening in person this year! CRC is the recipient of food donated to mail routes from the Encinitas and the Solana Beach Post Offices. CRC Volunteers are needed to unload and sort food donations that come in. Shifts are available at the Encinitas Post Office from 2-5 pm and 5-6:30 pm and at the Solana Beach Post Office from 2-4 pm and 4-6 pm. This is a great opportunity to support our Food Pantry and those experiencing food insecurity in our community. For more details, email Sheri.
