June Volunteer News
A monthly update on all things volunteer at Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County
Construction at Gold Bar home in full swing
Over the weekend, more than 20 volunteers from the Wells Fargo Washington Veterans’ Team Member Network helped at our Veterans Build site in Gold Bar. They also announced their $15,000 sponsorship of the build project that day. The team helped us finish the foundation formworks, a critical element in preparing to pour the foundation.

Other teams that helped us out on the site in May include our $2,500 build sponsor, Coastal Community Bank , and University of Washington’s Phi Mu Sorority , which contributed a $250 donation to the build.

We are thankful for the ongoing financial and volunteer support from all the various businesses and organizations in our community. Thank you!

Up next at Gold Bar: foundation. Read more about the home construction process here . Public volunteer days at our Gold Bar site are primarily Wednesdays. Anyone interested in volunteering may sign up. No experience is necessary, but an orientation is required for all volunteers; the registration link is at the end of this email.
We are still looking for lunch donations for our builders! If you can't volunteer on the build site, please consider donating lunch. It is our goal to provide lunch for volunteers at every single build day. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in donating lunch or would like additional information.
Urgent volunteer need at Smokey Point Habitat Store
We’re almost done with construction at the new Smokey Point Habitat Store! Get in on the action and help us cross the finish line!

We are hosting volunteers every day this week to help put the finishing touches on the store with the goal to open this month. Several volunteers are needed to assist with painting and laying out carpet. This is our organization's most urgent volunteer need.

Another crucial volunteer need is a donations truck assistant - this position requires a weekly schedule Thursday and/or Friday.

Please register here to help with Smokey Point construction or on the truck.
Volunteer Spotlight: Gim Quong
Gim Quong has been volunteering with Habitat Snohomish for nearly one year. Gim began with Habitat Snohomish as a family services committee volunteer, but soon got involved with the organization in a number of other ways as she began responding to almost every email requesting additional volunteer help.

When the Smokey Point Habitat Store set up began, Gim was one of the first people volunteering to help. She started by assisting us with the removal of shelving from Bartell’s and helped transport it to the new store. She showed up for almost every single volunteer day to set up the Smokey Point Store and has remained dedicated to the project.

“Gim never misses a day and is always the last to leave,” Smokey Point Habitat Store Manager Kelli Henderson said. “If she doesn’t know how to do something, she figures it out and gets it done.”
Gim had her hands in almost every construction project at the store. Her most notable accomplishment was installing all of the ceiling tiles in the store’s office and break room, a very time consuming and tedious task.

“I don’t know how I can possibly thank Gim for her support through this important project, I truly appreciate all she’s done,” Kelli said.
