Recently, our administrative team met with teachers to analyze the results from last month’s FAST PM2 assessments. Although we are impressed with the number of students demonstrating proficiency in ELA and Math at this time, we know that we can do better. We need your help. Please encourage your student to read books, e-books, or magazines regularly and discuss what they are reading. Strong reading skills are necessary for students when completing their online coursework in all academic subjects to allow them the ability to access the content. Reading requires focus and attention to detail, skills that are also crucial for solving math problems accurately. Additionally, reading can build persistence and patience, which are valuable when tackling challenging math problems.
This past week, we celebrated National School Counseling Week. We are so lucky to have Mrs. Hamlin, Mrs. Wilson, and Mrs. Little advocating for our students on a daily basis. They work tirelessly with students, families, teachers, and administration to ensure our VOL students are successful. Thank you for making a difference every day!
Elementary students in grades 3-5 will be asked to reset their password on February 12th to enhance the security of student accounts. Students will not be able to log into VPortal without changing their password. Changing it early will not help – the reset must occur on Wednesday, February 12th. Teachers will model for students (and parents) this week during live lessons to prepare, practice, and create new passwords. Once you change your student’s password, please write it down so that you can access it later. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the ITS Help Desk at 386-734-7190, extension 25000. Please note, students in kindergarten through 2nd grade will NOT be expected to make any changes to how they login.
Is your student stuck on an assignment or in need of in-person support? Secondary full-time students can join us for our next WIN/SOS Lab. Teachers will be available to provide in-person assistance at our Volusia Online Learning Headquarters on February 12th from 12:30-3:30 PM. This is a perfect time for your student to get back on track or brush up on skills they are struggling with. Sign up here. Students should bring their charged laptop with power cord. Students may want to bring a chilled water bottle or a personal snack.
We are approximately five weeks into the new semester. Please ask your student to show you where they are in their courses and help develop a plan to remain on pace. Teachers will be assigning Quarter 3 report card grades based on student progress at the end of the school day on Thursday, March 13th. Report card grades will reflect actual student progress or lack thereof for each course listed on their schedule (this includes special area and elective courses).
Attention senior parents, Volusia Online Learning has partnered with Herff Jones, our official graduation supplier. Cap and gown orders can be placed online at www.herfforlando.com. Please be sure to place your order no later than March 1st to avoid paying a late fee. All items ordered EXCEPT the cap and gown will be shipped to your home. Caps and gowns will be distributed through Volusia Online Learning in early May.
Thank you for reading. Have a great week!
