Third-quarter newsletter

Friends,

Given the immense need for science-based leadership, from stopping the rampant spread of a deadly virus to addressing the root causes of climate change, voting in the upcoming election is an imperative. As Billie Eilish so eloquently says, “We all have to vote like our lives and the world depend on it, because they do.”

Although the Clean Coalition is constrained from endorsing specific candidates, we can encourage people to vote. So please vote to ensure the best future possible. Vote for worthy leaders at every level who are honest and informed by facts and science.

An example of outstanding local leadership came from the Santa Barbara Unified School District (SBUSD), under the leadership of Board President Laura Capps, by approving state-of-the-art Solar Microgrids that deliver an unparalleled trifecta of economic, environmental, and resilience benefits to numerous sites throughout the grid-vulnerable Santa Barbara region. Read more in the entry below.

The future will be set by the next President, a reconstituted US Senate, state legislatures, city councils, school boards, and every other position of leadership. As the Dalai Lama noted in a recent LA Times op-ed, we need altruistic leaders who will take actions to benefit all beings — not just the leaders themselves and their enablers.

By far, this is the most critical election of my lifetime. I urge you to make a plan to vote, and help others to do the same. Together, we can accelerate the transition to renewable energy and a modern grid — and will accomplish so much more as well that is vital to our communal future.

Power On!
