Remind Those You Serve to Join The Trust's Youth Advisory Committee

It's officially the Youth Advisory Committee's (YAC) recruitment season in August and September.

What is the YAC?

• The YAC is a youth development program available exclusively to Miami-Dade County high school students that allows participants to explore leadership, service and advocacy. The YAC also provides eye-opening community service opportunities. 

What are the benefits of joining the YAC?

9th through 12th grades are given the opportunity to:

1. Earn an abundance of community service hours
2. Develop a service-learning project, with funds provided by The Children’s Trust.
3. Participate in local fieldtrips to meet local community leaders and experience Miami-Dade communities
4. Participate in a trip to the Capitol in Tallahassee during Florida Children’s Week to meet legislators and experience the political process.
5. Gain strong leadership and teamwork qualities that will last a lifetime.

YAC's Environmental Resiliency Youth Summit on Sept. 28 at FIU

Encourage those you serve to participate in the YAC Environmental Resiliency Youth Summit on Sept. 28, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at FIU College of Engineering & Computing, 10555 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33174. The summit will include a film festival competition, interactive workshops, upcycled art, exhibits, tours, community service hours, food and more. Register below.

YAC Film Festival

Encourage those you serve to join YAC Film Festival for the Environmental Resiliency Youth Summit by submitting a 3-5 minute documentary video on the marine or conservation topic of their choice for a chance to win a prize. The film festival is open to all high schoolers and middle schoolers in Miami-Dade. Videos must be submitted by using QR code by Sept. 7. Videos will be shown at summit. Details below:

Round Robin Playgroup

This week, we are featuring the Round Robin Playgroup and their FREE library playgroups in partnership with The Children's Trust Parent Club. Round Robin Playgroup brings families closer by providing a casual socialization experience to form lasting friendships between caregivers and children. Their mission is to tear down financial barriers while providing high-quality, donation-based "Caregiver & Me" playgroups, ensuring that every family can participate, regardless of their financial situation. Their "Pay What You Can" model reduces these barriers and allows Round Robin Playgroup to extend its reach into different communities across Miami-Dade County. Apply for Vote Miami Microgrants by Sept. 2 *

Voter turnout is low in Miami (If you want to know what it looks like in your neighborhood, check out the data at Vote Miami: https://votemiami.org/why-voting-matters/). Everyone should feel empowered and informed when elections come around! Voting in local elections directly influences our daily lives and our ability to build a greater Miami. To help achieve this, The Miami Foundation and @unitedwaymiami are coming together to equip nonprofits with resources to better inform local residents about the candidates in their municipal elections.

15 nonprofits will receive $1000 each to host candidate town halls or forums. Nonprofits that care deeply about informing voters and increasing voter turnout in local elections are encouraged to apply. Grants applications will be accepted until Sept. 2.

William T. Grant Foundation Institutional Challenge Grant Applications Open

The purpose of this program is to support university-based research institutes, schools, and centers in building sustained research-practice partnerships with public agencies or nonprofit organizations in order to reduce inequality in youth outcomes. Eligibility is limited to tax-exempt organizations. Eligible organizations include university-based research institutes, schools, or centers. Award Ceiling: $650,000.

TD Ready Challenge Grants Available for Nonprofits

The purpose of the TD Ready Challenge is to support innovative approaches to supporting underserved small business owners to develop a business, launch a new business, or grow an existing business. This program encourages applicants to present novel strategies, technologies or partnerships that have the potential to disrupt systemic barriers for underserved entrepreneurs with the goal of cultivating a more inclusive and supportive entrepreneurial landscape across North America. Eligibility is limited to U.S. charitable and not-for profit organizations which meet the following criteria: have received Section 501(c)(3) determination from the Internal Revenue Service (the "IRS"); or are treated by the IRS as an organization that is not a private foundation as described in Sections 509(a)(1),(2) or (3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the "IRS Code"); or are a local/state government organization. Award Ceiling: $1,000,000.Deadline date for applications is September 5.

Change the Life of a Child in Foster Care; Serve on a Citizen Review Panel

Florida Foster Care Review (FFCR) advances the safety, stability and success of youth and young adults involved in Miami-Dade’s dependency system by connecting them to essential services, healthy relationships and forever families. Program Manager- $61,565.02 Annual

The position manages the full life cycle of assigned funded program(s) and services located throughout Miami-Dade County. This person requires occasional non-traditional work hours (weekends and evenings) and reliable transportation. This professional position will support the Programs Management Team in implementing strategies that foster collaboration among internal and external stakeholders to ensure services are delivered in accordance with The Children’s Trust standards and latest evidence-based practices. S/he is responsible for utilizing change management, knowledge, skills, and behaviors to promote continuous quality improvement throughout the assigned contracts and projects. The Communications and Community Engagement (CE) Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Communications with the general administration of communications projects, vendor agreements and purchase orders. Work performed by the Communications & Community Engagement Coordinator includes but is not limited to researching and obtaining bids for services or purchased goods, monitoring agreements and their terms of services, scopes of work and quality of final product, goods or service to ensure high level output.
